look twice, oil once
Got to work today and noticed I left a trail of something behind me. Looked under the truck and noticed a nice puddle of oil. Cranked it back up and looked around and oil was gushing out of the oil filter. Removed the oil filter and found this: http://dave.sobr.org/enc/1566506871.687_oil-filter-2-ga...

Re: what is this spring?
I'm guessing the spring attaches here:
I've read that the other end of the spring is supposed to attach to the frame, but I can't get in my head how that would work. Does anyone have a picture of theirs I could see?

Re: what is this spring?
That all makes sense. My clutch pedal doesn't fully return to the up position anymore. It stops about 1/2" shy and I have to raise it with my toe. But, it's been doing that for a long time. I guess the spring broke and maybe was just hanging there for a long time and finally fell off. Although,...

what is this spring?
I found this spring on the road underneath my truck. Nothing seems to run any different than before. Any ideas on where it came from?
It's possible it came off my son's '70 bumpside and I just found it later underneath mine. Not sure.

That’s what prompted mine. Pedal got soft and when I checked it I barely had any fluid. . It was full on the last oil change so it went somewhere. 65 single to dual master conversion finished - parts list
Just finished a full brake system overhaul with dual master cylinder conversion (drum/drum) and decided to post a parts list: Master cylinder: Napa# M1902 Push rod: Just re-use your original. Perfect fit. Front distribution block: Re-use the original and cap off the fourth port (bottom left) Master ...

leaky dual master cylinder
I did a dual master conversion this past week and noticed that after I bench bled the new master, it continued to leak fluid out of the output ports. I didn't think it was supposed to leak out after the piston returned to resting position. Any advice?

Re: riveting new brake shoe linings
Scored on 2 fronts today. For anyone else close to my area: - Lee Rodgers Tire in downtown Birmingham is turning my front drums. They are the only local place I could find that still had a machine that would do it. - Automotive Friction, also in downtown Birmingham, will re-line the shoes. Thanks fo...

riveting new brake shoe linings
Any recommendation on what type of shop can rivet new linings on? I'd like to buy quality linings and have them put on my existing webs instead of just chain store replacement shoes.

Re: steering wheel refurb?
Here is a pic of the original wheel:
The warranty plate lists a blank color code, which I understand was standard for military orders. Would I be correct to say the original interior color here was "Navajo Beige"?

steering wheel refurb?
I swapped in a new steering wheel from a '66 last night: http://dave.sobr.org/enc/1561043465.013_steeringwheel66.jpg ...so I could keep driving while I refurb my original wheel. It's got lots of cracks in it. I'm thinking to just open up the cracks a bit with a dremel and use POR-15 epoxy putty to f...

Re: Truck stumble, coil voltage issue?
I think voltage to the coil should be around 7 volts if I remember correctly.
+1 for electronic ignition. It’s the way to go if you can swing it. No more pitted points to booger with.

Re: this hurt my heart
Well, what are the odds of this. After fixing the wire and driving to work, it wouldn't crank when I came out to go home. All I got was a click. Ended up being a bad starter solenoid. That solenoid has been fine for the past year and then all of a sudden it dies literally one crank after the other p...

http://dave.sobr.org/enc/1556252680.361_tow.jpg Was driving home from work and just died at a red light. Cranked it back up and it was ok until 2 red lights later and it died again. This time it would crank and start for a split second and then die. Tried quite a few times with the same pattern/res...

rust: driving vs. sitting
I have an ongoing debate with my buddy about whether or not a car rusts faster when sitting vs. being driven daily. Given a non-salt environment, my contention is that a vehicle that is driven regularly has a chance to "dry out" more than one which sits. Air flow and all. I'm not saying th...
