Re: '62 F100 SWB Step Side - yes another Crown Vic swap
Jon - As you know I'll be following this build very closely, since it's very much like the build that I'm planning. Only difference is that I'll be using a Roadmaster donor car. I am and have been thinking about what we will do or use as a filler panel for the slick dash to cover the CV heater box I...

Re: '65 F100 SWB - yes another Crown Vic swap
we are breaking that cycle on theses trucks (at least for us) because we don't want to worry about chips, scrapes, or dings, we have had and own nice shiny vehicles but the truth is when they come out of the garage you worry, heck I even worry about being around them in the garage because we invest...

Re: '65 F100 SWB - yes another Crown Vic swap
The green paint showing through gives it a bit of a patina look. Either way the truck looks great! I agree with Steve. I actually thought that that was part of your aging process. I'm a little worried though, about whether or not some more of the prior paint work might let go and take all of your p...

Re: '65 F100 SWB - yes another Crown Vic swap
Jon - Congrats on another job well done. I am amazed at how well you and your wife work together and your work ethic. I would love to be able to get on a project and "get er done", but life tends to get in the way and it seems that there is always something else that needs to be done that ...

Re: '65 F100 SWB - yes another Crown Vic swap
It took a lot of hacking on the RM cluster to get it to fit which I cover tomorrow, but the bottom line is that reusing the RM cluster and the slicks bezel/trim is doable. Jon - That's exactly what I plan to do also. Much like what they did at Drew brothers. Unfortunately, when I spoke with them, I...

Jon - I like what you've done with the bed floor. You can have two nice hidden compartments on either side of the fuel tank, behind the wheel wells. Good place to put your ammo, tools, etc. Nice job !!

Re: '65 F100 SWB - yes another Crown Vic swap
One other thing.....you know in the summer and you roll down the drivers window to get air, with power windows you can roll down the passenger window without crawling across the seat and cranking that window up or down, might seem trivial but it is a added convenience that I appreciate. In my case,...

I've done quite a few of the rubber gasket type windshields and back glass. I used 1/8 inch nylon rope and dish soap. Soak the rope in dish soap, so it's dripping wet. Put the gasket onto the glass and then put the rope into the groove that fits over the pinchweld. Put some soap into a squeeze bottl...

Thanks for the tips Jon. Wet sanding was going to be the last resort for me, and if that didn't work ... replace.

In cleaning this Mylar coating I came across a company named Novus that makes polish for plastics.... Have you tried that Novus polish on headlight lenses ? My 2000 super duty headlights are really yellowed and not very bright. I've tried some of the name brand headlight specific polishes with only...

Steve - I agree with Jon's wife. I use those handles a lot. They work great. It's easy to get nice even coverage with no streaks. Anothe...

If you have 30 minuets to kill this is a interesting video about a kid and his '66 F-100...... Re: '62 F100 SWB Step Side - yes another Crown Vic swap
The RM being a consumer car has a 140 amp alternator, both of these CV P71s has a 200 amp alternator, the newer '09 has a clutch mechanism on the alternator pulley that at idle lets the alternator only output around 140 amp but above idle goes full bore to 200 amp. That's very interesting info. I h...

Re: '62 F100 SWB Step Side - yes another Crown Vic swap
Boy you're not kidding about the rebuilder market. At one time around here, you had to have a dealers license just to be able to get into the Insurance auto auctions. Some still require it, but there are those that don't, and because of that, like you said, there are people in there buying up everyt...

Re: '62 F100 SWB Step Side - yes another Crown Vic swap
Jon - that thing got whacked pretty good. I wouldn't be surprised if the rear frame rails are slightly swung left. But, as you mentioned you'll be cutting off a couple feet, so it shouldn't be a problem. You could always cross measure the rear section of frame just to make sure they're square. You s...

Re: '62 F100 Uni - yes another Crown Vic swap
Ain't winter great !! Makes it rather tuff for us northern guys to enjoy our rides. It's hard to even work on them when a good deal of my time is spent shoveling/plowing snow or putting up firewood for the wood boiler that i heat the house with.
Good luck getting unstuck.
Tim,
Good luck getting unstuck.
Tim,

Re: '65 F100 SWB - yes another Crown Vic swap
Jon - I like the idea of a hidden hitch. Here's something you could use for license lights: last summer I bought a pair of license retainer bolts that have little LED's built in. Found them at one of the vendors at the Goodguys show in Des Moines. I just did a quick Google search and found that amaz...

Thanks Jon for the welcome. I too am a Chevy guy, always have been, but I have always liked the slicks ever since my dad bought a 1964 back in the day. Funny, being a chevy guy I have a yard full of non chevy projects. I will stick with the entire RM drivetrain since it only has 137,00 miles on it a...

Jon - I'm new to this forum, found it by accident while searching Google for anything Unibody related. I have a 62 Uni that used to be my shop truck 30+ years ago when I owned a body shop. I always thought it would be nice to restore it. I have a low mileage chev 454 big block with a turbo400 trans ...
