Re: Hello ya ol' greasy greasers!

I don't spend much time here anymore, though do drop in on occasion. Still find it to be a good source of information, when needed. The jokes never fail to put a smile on my face.

Ranger Fender Emblem Inserts

Hello All, Looking for Ranger fender emblems. Seems as though there were a couple sources a few years back. I remember that Carolina Classics offered the plastic insert and it seems that there was a person (from the Midwest??) that had them reproduced. Does anyone here know a source or have a pair t...

Re: door weatherstripping that fits

Never had a problem with Dennis Carpenter weather stripping. They are my first, and onl,y choice when it comes to weatherstrip materials

I have found the people at Carpenter's to be more than willing to help out when there is a problem. I would suggest calling them and talking specifics.

Good luck.

Re: Manual Transmission Upgrade -- Seeking Input

I have been looking into a 4 speed with overdrive to replace my original 3.03 3 speed. Like a T170FS SROD. Like Bruce said, they are a direct replacement with very little modification. Does anyone else have experience and or pictures of this upgrade behind an FE? Have one in the '66 that is my avat...

Re: Maching front disks to fit a smaller center hole.

I machined the bearing snout on the front rotors to allow my wheels to clear. As I remember I took about 3/16" off the outside of the snout, back about 1 1/2". I did this almost 20 years ago and there hasn't been an issue. I was using an original set of American Torque Thrust wheels, and m...

Re: Generator ?

Did you polarize it after you installed it? Its been so long since since ive messed with a generator ive forgotten how,im sure someone will post on how to. X3. Generators and generator regulators both need to be polarized after being disconnected for any length of time. A shop manual, of a vintage ...

Re: Dash paint color codes

The '66 I have as my avatar is a Custom Cab and originally had a two tone dash. The colors were the same as the exterior, turquoise and off white, and appeared to have been painted at the same tine as the truck.

Perhaps the two tone dash was part of the two tone CC package?

Re: Greed and oportunists

Not much different today than it was 30-40 tears ago. Only the vehicles have changed. 40 years back we were coming out of a gas crunch and any muscle car was cheap. Speculators stepped in and started jacking prices. Same for the early Mustangs. They were 10 years old and just becoming hot. Falcon's ...

Re: Coil voltage

I should have clarified. The Pertronix units I used were the basic Ignitors, not the ll or lll. There are any number of ways to supply the coil with 12 volts. Adding a relay triggered by the original coil wire is probably the simplest. I have been known to see problems where none exist and to create...

Re: Coil voltage

I installed a Pertronix on a '65 Mustang (same basic start /run circuitry as a Slick) earlier this year and had similar questions after reading and re-reading the Pertronix instructions and website. I contacted the Pertronix tech help and received an equally vague answer, "connect the black and...

'65 and '66 Custom Cabs. All others had the round speedo. Paul X2 There are a couple minor wiring differences to address if you are swapping clusters and if you are going to use a CC cluster with the factory ammeter and oil gauge there is some wiring to add, as well. Other than that the clusters ca...

Re: hood issues

When I install a hood I try to set it as high and as far forward as possible, as a starting point. This usually eliminates the hood contacting the cowl. Once the hood opens and closes without contact I then set gaps by "creeping up" on the desired gap. I also like to leave the latch off un...

Re: Offenhauser 360 Intake

A true 180* intake looks like a factory intake. There are two plenums and alternate firing cylinders ( 1 -5- 4 -2- 6 -3- 7 -8) draw from the same plenum. In other words cylinders that fire next to each other draw from different plenums. The true 180* design tends to work better at lower rpm's that a...

Re: Grandsons 351w heads

In my experience a complete rebuild on a set of stock cast iron heads will run you near the cost of low end aftermarket aluminum heads, as you stated. Quality aftermarket pieces will cost a bit more, but you get what you pay for. Depending on the use of the rig hardened exhaust seats may not be nece...

Re: Edelbrock 1405 - 600 cfm 4 barrel and Performer intake

I don't want to start a "brand X is better than brand Y" discussion, or argument, but... Both Holley and Edelbrock offer good carbs. The designs of both go back 60 plus years, to the 1950's, and both have their strong points and weak points. In my experiences, as aftermarket carbs go, Holl...
