Re: Dennis Carpenter Unibody Tailgates

I just sent back my 2nd non-uni tailgate to them. Metal thickness was good. Overall I was impressed but passenger side joint is completely cut wrong. Does not match driver side. They said this is the way they are. I’m not going to cut it apart to make it right after paying $475 for it. I’ll put the ...

Re: RedHead Steering box

sorry - haven't logged in for a while. To answer the questions: did it improve steering ease at slow speeds as in parking? Absolutely, I had already converted to PS from a 73/79, but the slop in the old box was noticable, just a lot of movement before wheels would turn. New box is direct, you turn t...

RedHead Steering box

Installed my Redhead PS steering box yesterday. Chose the close-ratio option, all I can say is WOW! One of the best upgrades I've done, direct feel to the front wheels, real nice tight feel, no slop at all. https://www.redheadsteeringgears.com/product/1970-1979-ford-2-wheel-drive-power-steering-gear/

Need help - Setting new speedometer to 0

Sits on zero until I connect cable, then rests at 10mph. Go underneath remove cable from trans, back it to zero, bolt it in, creeps back up to 10mph. No cable attached sits on zero just fine. Cable and speedometer are brand new. Driving it, the needle sweep works nice, just starts at 10mph. On anoth...

Re: NoLimit Engineering Rear Tank

Well this job is finally done! Flipped and moved rear cross member, reinstalled bed, then finished up. Put some gas in and took it for a spin. Just have to weld patch over old filler hole in cab. 12294 Cutting patch in to allow filler cap to lay flat 12293 Filler cap installed 12292 Tank installed a...

Re: NoLimit Engineering Rear Tank

Well after moving cross member and shaving a bit off the frame lip the tank is in and fits perfect. Tank is back out while I bodywork the filler area a bit. Hope to have that all welded up this Sunday.

Re: NoLimit Engineering Rear Tank

Ha! Thanks Bird. Everything is all set and ready to install tank on Saturday. Info on their web site is all wrong for Fords, but tank quality is fantastic. I considers three options before deciding on the NoLimit Tank: Replace original. Really didn't like all the noise the tank produced in the cab, ...

Re: NoLimit Engineering Rear Tank

UPDATE: Well according to their web site and what the woman taking the order said, this tank would fit in with no modifications. Yet another bit of mis-information. I had to pop the bed off and flip the rear cross member. Now I bought the 17 gallon version because I didn't want to deal with this mod...

Re: NoLimit Engineering Rear Tank

Well best laid plans. They sent me a 1960 tank. Hopefully next weekend I have the right one. UPDATE - talked to NoLimit this morning, tank is correct, person taking order told me I could use my new sending unit, after speaking to Rob he said the tank requires a different one, said he was sorry for e...

NoLimit Engineering Rear Tank

After looking at all the options I decided to go with a NoLimit Engineering 17 Gallon tank. They have a 21 gallon version, but the 17 drops in with no frame mods. The tank also installs from underneath with no need to remove bed. Quality seems to be really nice. Coated so it should remain clean look...

Re: Welding Damage

Toyz - when this was fried I took the alternator to a local shop, they replaced the diodes and where the ones who blamed the welding. He never said, replace your regulator or to bring it in for testing. I put the rebuilt alternator back in and started the truck, and still not charging. I then took t...

Re: Welding Damage

Well after a new Voltage regulator ($30), new diodes in the original alternator ($20), and new alternator ($40) I'm back on the road. Put the rebuilt alternator back in, no charge. Had voltage regulator checked, it failed, so a new one installed, still no charging. Rebuilt Alternator to Advanced Aut...

Re: Welding Damage

Toyz I agree with what you are saying. The charging system was fine before going to exhaust shop. The alternator shop opened up the case and without knowing the exhaust or anything had been done, said for the damage he saw, someone had to be welding on the truck. Said he has seen this quite a few ti...

Welding Damage

Took the truck to a shop to have custom stainless exhaust made for it. When I picked it up I couldn't believe how great it sounded, 2.5" pipes thru MagnaFlow oval mufflers dumping underneath with a down turn before axle. I drove the truck back to the garage where I keep it, about 4 miles from m...

Re: Engine to Machine Shop, any guess what FE it is?

Yes, BarnieTrk I'm real happy with what they did. a) What all did they do with the heads: hardened valve seats, any new valves? Yes, new valves and hardened seat, so I can run unleaded premium b) What transmission will you have behind that new mill? I have a rebuilt toploader 4 speed out of a galaxy...

Re: Engine to Machine Shop, any guess what FE it is?

Well the engine is finally back in the truck and we fired it up for the first time on Saturday with open headers. The smile cannot be wiped off my face. Have to get an exhaust before I can (legally) drive it.

Re: Engine to Machine Shop, any guess what FE it is?

My part# 1806 I got the thunder AVS carb 650.

Guy who built it was telling all about his first truck - 64 slick. They had a Pantera in the shop they were running same night as my engine. When I picked up the engine he had a factory Five Cobra sitting in front of the Pantera WOW!

Re: Engine to Machine Shop, any guess what FE it is?

well the results are in.... As pulled form the truck it was a 352, that was 10 thousands over, 65 block with 68 heads. I added a Edlelbrock 1806 Thunder AVS carb, performer manifold, performer cam and lifters, sanderson shorty headers, power products harmonic balancer. They took it to a total of 60 ...

Re: Engine to Machine Shop, any guess what FE it is?

Block was sonic tested. I didn't want to go to wild because of cooling issues, taking to much material out, etc. They said the c8 heads didn't have the oiling issues as bad as the c5 heads. The owner has done hundreds of FE's over the years and is the go-to shop in my area. They also own a pretty su...
