In similar circumstances not sure I would do it. BUT, it is your truck, do what you want and not worry about what others think. You could always store the 223 and trans away and drop back in down the road if you have a change in thinking.
Looking at the LMC catalog, appears the headliner for a 63 custom cab headliner is different than for a 66 but I cannot tell how. Assuming one had access to a free 63 headliner, any reason to think I could make it work?
