Re: Truck went to the paint shop today

Thanks for the a/c info. I have an overhead console I bought at a swap meet that has three rotary type electronic control knobs on it. I bet it can be adapted to run the a/c unit so I don't have those plastic knobs under the dash. I think the overhead console came from a suburban and fits like it wa...

Truck went to the paint shop today

I haven't been around much lately. I spent the last three years getting my 66 Mustang fastback completely restored. Now it is done and I am starting on the Slick again. I have the frame completed with 2008 Crown Vic front end, 9" from 81 F-100, Mustang 22 gallon tank, AOD trans and a 5.0 from a...

Re: Heads for a 5.8/351 - Need advice

Hey! No argument on the head condition... !@! I was just trying to point out stuff that causes issues if you go to changing. And if you WERE going to change things, drilling out the head bolt holes is a ten minute job with a hand held drill and is no big deal. If a guy doesn't know to look for the w...

Re: Heads for a 5.8/351 - Need advice

I have had good luck plug-welding a 1/4" washer to broken 5/16" bolts. Then weld a nut to the washer. It usually comes right out after all that heat. The washer lets you get a real solid plug weld to a flush sheared bolt, and usually does not stick to the cast iron if careful. You need a r...

Re: Heads for a 5.8/351 - Need advice

Is this a race vehicle? A good set of production heads can surely be found from a 5.0 for $100. Let THOSE GUYS pay for the expensive aluminum heads and you get a deal on their old ones. 351W heads and valves are same as 302 or 5.0 heads, after 1971, except you might have to drill out the head bolt s...

Re: changing the oilpan. any wise words?

Get all the surfaces super clean, then throw the new gaskets in the trash. RTV ultra black real thick for the end seals and a thin layer on the block and pan, then bolt the bolts up TIGHT before the stuff sets up. (you have plenty of time using the ULTRA stuff as it sets slower. Let it sit a day the...

Re: What's wrong with my brakes?

You should adjust that rod to give about 0.010" clearance, if you want a dimension. But if it works and the brakes don't drag, you got it right. Too long can be a problem also.

Re: Have you seen the Slick paintings that are on ebay?

Bird55, that is a pretty "slick" impressionist style painting you did! Kind of line Monet, except he did not have the cool subject matter available. I have alot of respect for the artful folks. I can do anything if it can be drawn with straight lines, caulked or welded. Those who can make ...

Re: 4 wheel drums are proportioned

ICeman, I believe you are incorrect on that one. The drum brake trucks have a differential pressure valve in that distribution block that LOOKS sort of like the one that has the proportioning valve in it, but it does not. It is shaped like an "H" and does not have the proportioning valve. ...

Re: How bad is this on my 65 F100 swb stepside

I-Beams are made with offset in them so they clear each other. I think that is what you are seeing there. The rear axle is garbage, though. I just paid a guy to haul off a 9" out of my 66... I have another one but you are a ways off. Now I think about it, there is a spare shortbed frame for a 6...

Re: too low?

Don't you have to have the same tire size on both your trucks to be able top compare that 9.5" dimension? Better way to measure ride height is from center of wheel to top of fender lip. That way, you are taking wheel DIAMETER out of the equation. Obviously a taller tire will raise it up, but do...

He has them in lots of different colors. They look pretty good. Good inspiration for those needing to choose a color combo for a project. http://stores.ebay.com/johnsonartprints?_trksid=p4340.l2563 He has 65 and 66 models. I am not associated with him - just passing on info. http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1...
