Thanks Paul, just not the best of days.
I think we are in violent agreement here, just looking at it from different angles.

Re: Volt Gauge
John, I don't believe any ammeter, regardless of any possible mid-labeling, is likely to have a "14v" marking. Paul Paul, I would expect an ammeter to be able to show 30A in either a charge or discharge condition. My original Ford ammeter does. As for voltmeters, I would expect them to sh...

Re: Volt Gauge
I think it would be helpful to ID the type of "voltmeter" you have since they were replaced. Gauge Type #1 - True Voltmeter: This voltmeter pegs all the way to the left on 0V, and all the way to the right on 18V or 20V (whatever the maximum number is.) It floats somewhere in the middle of ...

Re: COM to C6
The C6 has a slip joint in the tail shaft and I had thought of just making a new drive shaft to fit.... Perfect. If you are wanting the correct steering column, look for one '69 - '72 as well. If you have the '70s power steering gearbox, there are many more in this date range that are the right len...

Re: COM to C6
You'll need to remove the 2nd crossmember, the one between the 2 mounts for the radius arms, to R&R the C6. Since your truck came with an automatic from the factory, there should be only bolts, not rivets there. The tunnel under the cab is not tall enough for the C6 bellhousing to pass through. ...

Re: Changing rear gears to accommodate 1st granny gear?
Which rear end do you have? Ford or Dana? If it is a Ford 9", then you can easily change your truck's rear end gear ratio for one that requires 1st to be 1st gear. You will lose the ability to carry any kind of a serious load, though. A Dana axle gear change presents a greater amount of work th...

By the way, that is not a front sump oil pan, but a center sump.

Re: non cab related column shift problems.......
You will need to ID your truck as to the year. If your truck has Twin I-beams in front, then it is a '65 or a '66. If it has a single axle, then it is a '64 or earlier. You can also post the VIN and we can decode it. Make sure the VIN matches the numbers on the frame. though. (Good time to make sure...

Re: Possible to pull oil pan without lifting engine? (352)
Pretty sure the rear main seal is good. It's just the oil pan gasket is past its prime. Not just at the back but the sides as well. I have not touched it since I owned the truck and the bolts are torqued up tight. Should have replaced it when the truck was just an engine and frame when I was restor...

Re: Possible to pull oil pan without lifting engine? (352)
I have been able to do it successfully, but I used 2 2x4s, one under each motor mount. You won't have enough room other wise. As for the "rear main seal leak" make sure it is the rear main, and not the rear of the intake. Hey Mike, I hear the crossmember tends to be an issue, i've got a re...

The actual wire stops at the bulkhead connector.Mr. Jones wrote:Found the resistor wire, pig tail off ignition, pink.Followed it across and lost it above the pedal assembly, don't know where it terminates...
The electrical path continues through the bulkhead connector to the coil.

Re: Ballast Resistor-Question??
If you are running points, I would suspect first a failing condenser in the distributor and then a failing coil.

Re: Ballast Resistor-Question??
Your mechanic friend doesn't know Fords of the '60s and '70s very well. As Rich pointed, out, Ford didn't use a ceramic block style like the other manufacturers did, but used a long resistor wire, pink and wrapped with pink cloth with green ends. It is wrapped up in the under-dash wiring harness. Us...

Re: trailer hitch?
The local U-Haul installed a new Class III hitch for about $150. Did not include wiring up lights for trailers, though. I did the wiring myself. The hitch was made for our Slicks, with one exception on my '66: One bolt hole in the hitch was obscured by a frame rivet, so they just drilled another one...

Re: Thinking about going to a smaller motor
With my 460 and C6 automatic transmission, I got close to 15 MPG on the freeway at 65 - 70 MPH. Empty or towing, not much difference. But I wanted the truck to be able to tow a car hauler, so I wanted more power than a 302 can put out, but I do sacrifice mileage around town. It is basically a mild b...

Re: Cigarette lighter mount to dash (66 custom cab)
The cigarette lighter has 3 parts. 1. The pop-out heater with knob 2. The socket for the heating element 3. An outer case The outer case slips over the socket. The case itself is threaded at one end and screws onto the socket. The socket has a threaded stud for the power supply. The case has a bend-...

Well, I learned something new.
I did not know that a single sensor can be used for both the gauge and the idiot light - I am having difficulty getting my brain around how it is done.
Oh well, thanks for the ride!
