And that bolt on the back side by the door pillar, well a hole saw to the fender let me grab the captured nut that broke free. My inner pillars and lower pillars were gone also, some parts were repoped, some ...

Dude....that-is-pretty!!
And I think you're right about the black paint. I'm pretty sure there was some around the headlight buckets also. But I'm also pretty sure there was a chrome steel one also.

Do the seat belts first!! There is no worse feeling as your truck slides into the ditch at about 90kmh and remembering your seat belts were still on the 'to-do' list!

Re: My 62 shortbox build
I don't mind the ride, it a little choppy, but it handles like a go-cart. Its actually quite fun to drive. The independent will give me a usable box back, and the rear won't bottom anymore. Plus, I've got the mark VIII just sitting there, may as well use the parts.

Re: My 62 shortbox build
Sorry, this is the best pic I have of it right now. The frame actually leans a little forward to mimic the angle of the original shock placement. I notched the frame aswell. Most guys lay the shocks almost flat, and at that point they really don't do a whole lot. http://i216.photobucket.com/albums/c...

Re: My 62 shortbox build
When I first lowered mine in the rear, I just took out leafs until it sat where I wanted it. But that was a little soft. Then I swapped out the springs for a newer set and flipped the axle to the top of the spring. With the CV front end in it, the rocker of the truck sits parallel with the ground.

Sweet build so far, I'm liking your approach. And I love that steering wheel!
You said yours might be the only drive by wire 61 Unibody, well if it is, then I've got the only 62!! LOL
