Re: 302/5.0 Recommendations
It seems like better mileage would have to be the biggest reason for the swap. How is the 460 set up, what kind of mpgs are/ were you seeing under daily-driving conditions, and what was done to optimize the current combination? It will take a lot of driving to offset the expense of a new/ rebuilt en...

Re: S10 frame
2wd S-10s have a very narrow track width - they're over 5" narrower than our trucks stock, which already have the wheels sucked in pretty far. The rails also don't come close to matching the profile of ours and are not symmetrical, making cab, bed, and other mounts more challenging and almost g...

Re: Project bagged shop truck uni
Assuming you're talking about a '03+ Crown Vic, they get huge variations in camber at anything other than a pretty specific predetermined ride height. You can also run into tire/ wheel well opening clearance issues if you're tucking the tire and steering. That's probably why you don't see many of th...

You're going to be doing frame surgery if you want to lay anything on the ground, so you might as well clip it and save at least a grand over a kit. The F-body route is proven, cheap, relatively easy, and maintains good geometry throughout a big range of travel. It's also narrow enough to allow you ...

Re: Rack & Pinion FOR 65 FACTORY SUSPENSION?????
Anything is possible, but that doesn't make it a good idea. The steering linkage on a twin-I beam setup has to cross or you will have ungodly bumpsteer.
What is the reasoning behind wanting a rack and pinion?

DV65CustomCab wrote:Cutting the coils ruins the camber angle. There is no 'alignment' operation that will fix that. I'm a little surprised no one has pointed this out yet.
Like he said in the first post and again by dsrtjeeper, just about any shop that does truck alignments can bend the beams to correct the camber.

Always be leery of recent poorly done paint and bedliner. Big gaudy wheels on an old vehicle with a recent quicky paint job is generally an attempt to draw in "under-informed" buyers.

Re: New Porterbuilt IFS Crossmember Pics!
The fabrication looks good, but I would have a hard time trusting a clip that bolts to a relatively small portion of frame rail in that way (because of of the frame, not the clip). It just seems like the bolts would have a tendency to work loose when going from a stiff clip to the noodly stock frame...

Re: addco sway bar on my 64 question
An axle on parallel leaf springs travels more or less straight up and down without lateral movement. This is why so many vehicles with front parallel leaf springs have push-pull steering, as a in cross-steer setup (drag link perpendicular to frame rails), the drag link travels in a lateral arc. A pa...

Re: addco sway bar on my 64 question
A panhard bar will add bumpsteer with push-pull steering.
Good spring and shackle bushings (not 50 year old rubber), springs that aren't clapped out, decent shocks, and a sway bar are about as much as you can really do with the factory type suspension.

Check this out, especially post #9. You can drill and tap the metering plate to accept standard Holley jets.

Have you thought about trying to buy/ trade for a 600 cfm carb? Good working Holleys/ Edelbrocks go for about $100, and I'm sure you could find someone willing to trade for your 750.

You're toward the bottom. Looks like 72s on the primary side and a 134-21 plate for the secondaries.
Has anything been done to the 390? That 750 is definitely on the big side, especially if it's mostly just a driver.

Re: Dana 60 axle...what to look for before installing?
Spec range is 0.006-0.010. Tighter makes for noisy gears and excess heat. It looks like you still have some gear oil on there, which makes a big difference when working in thousandths. Gears have to be clean to get a real reading, but you might be in the acceptable range without the oil.

Re: Dana 60 axle...what to look for before installing?
What did the backlash measure with clean gears? Are the required thrust washers in the carrier? It takes 5 minutes and $40 worth of tools if you have to buy them to make sure it's set up correctly and won't potentially leave you stranded. All you have to do is stick the dial indicator on it to check...

Re: Dana 60 axle...what to look for before installing?
Is the ratio what you thought it was going to be? Every open diff Dana axle I know of has thrust washers between the spider gears and the carrier. If the backlash is overly loose at this point, you'll need new gears as they develop a wear pattern very quickly and will never be right if installed inc...

Move to a different state. Most politicians aren't going to listen to anyone, especially people who want to decrease tax revenue - they only notice when there is less tax money collected or they get voted out. Make too big a stink against taxes in the news and you're likely to wind up being audited....

Re: Dana 60 axle...what to look for before installing?
Everything has its limits in strength and longevity. The ring and pinion are fairly strong, but definitely still subject to rust, poor installation, and often crappy aftermarket gear sets. The shafts that came in these trucks are weak for an axle that size. They're only 1.31" in diameter, a ver...

Re: Dana 60 axle...what to look for before installing?
The tooth count is generally stamped into the perimeter of the ring gear. Counting the teeth is pretty fool-proof, though. Carrier and pinion bearings would mean re-setting the gears. If it needs new bearings, I would skip on the axle and buy and install new name brand gears and bearings into your o...
