Re: new members and chat
You regulars might want to ask the new members where they are from, what they drive and what they do for a living, if they are still working, etc. It would probably help get them engaged in the chat.

Re: Ignition Switch Removal
Well, put in the new headlight switch and the knob and shaft. Still have the short. With the key off, the taillights/front clearance and dash lights are on. I can turn off the dash lights using the new headlight switch rheostat, but the outside front and rear tail lights are still on. Drats!!! Next ...

Re: Ignition Switch Removal
Got the new headlight switch today and plugged it in. Sadly the short is still there. Since I removed the knob and shaft, does that leave the headlights on? If so, I'll have to plug the switch back in and reinstall the knob and shaft then push the knob in and see if the dash lights go out. Here's h...

Re: Paint over Powdercoat?
Although I have never done it, powder coat is still just paint, so I'd expect it would be the same as any other over paint.

After getting the headlight switch out I see that the Ni-chrome wire to dim the dash lights is all busted up. Got a new switch on order.

Re: Ignition Switch Removal
I also see the small pin sticking up from the headlight switch close to the dash. Is this pin when pushed release the knob and shaft? I tired pushing the pin in and pulling out the knob and shaft, but it does not seem to release.

Re: Ignition Switch Removal
I did what you said and the clips came loose. I have not yet tried to remove the plug from the headlight switch yet. Finally got something to work correctly. I tried the allen wrench on the ignition switch and I still cannot get it in the hole after I turn the switch to ACC, I can get it in when the...

Re: Ignition Switch Removal
A slight change of topic. I also need to unplug the wires going to the headlight switch, to see if the dash lights stay off when I reconnect the battery. I see a clip on each side of the switch like those used to hold on a distributor cap. Will releasing those clips allow the wire plug to be removed...

Re: Ignition Switch Removal
1. Disconnect battery 2. Turn key to ACC position and insert paper clip in the hole in the tumbler and then pull out tumbler. 3. Push the switch against the dash from the backside, while holding pressure against the bezel on the front side of the dash. 4. As you are pushing switch in turn it a litt...
