Re: Thank you.

Its a shame you had to let it go, but you gotta do what you gotta do. And there will always be another slick, particularly over your side of the world! Don't worry about the 250 being a GMC, we have plenty of FORD 250 sixes down our way to make up for it! http://www.shannons.com.au/library/images/a...

Re: Thank you.

Thanks, guys!

My love for domestic pickup trucks with straight-sixes knows no bounds.

Eventually, I'd like a Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. Maybe a Jeep J-Truck, too.

Thank you.

I'm moving on, after battling my '66 for the last 12 months. After two engines, an HEI upgrade, a new carb, and lot of wrenching, I got that ol' girl purring like a lap-cat... With a bad wrist-pin. At the end of my budget and in dire need of a daily-driver, I was offered an extremely fair sum for my...

Re: Alright, it's staying...

I'm no longer relying on getting my 'slick in daily-driver condition on any kind of schedule. I'm bicycling around 100 miles per week and sharing a car with my wife, and that means I don't have to put a 240/300 in my truck. I love sixes though and want a 300. That said, I've seen a few afforbable 39...

Alright, it's staying...

Hey all, Been a month or so, and I've ironed out some work-issues and life is settling down. My long suffering '66 was for sale for a while, and after I turned down several offers of $1000, I realized I simply can't sell it though I needed to really badly. The main reason I couldn't let it go is the...

Re: 240 to late-model 300 swap--anyone done this?

Thanks for the info everyone!

Going to take some time and do some research. The '90 wasn't worth it--tired and neglected.

Going to bicycle to work, save some coin, and decide how and when to build a long-block.

For now, bodywork shall commence.

All things in the fullness of time.

240 to late-model 300 swap--anyone done this?

Hello all, I have a line on a '90 4.9 with 107K on it. Bone stock. My 240 is kaput, so I need to swap in an engine, and this one comes with a limited warranty. My truck is a cruiser/daily-driver, not a go-fast truck. That said, should I advance the cam, or leave it in it's stock location? I'm runnin...

Re: I am in a bad spot.

Lesson my dad taught me..1. dont sweat the small stuff. 2. Everything non life threatening is small stuff. I like your dad's style! The thing that's really complicating all this is my need for a new job. I make a good living, but I'm stuck in a very toxic environment at my current job--to sum it up...

Re: I am in a bad spot.

I did list it, but it's down now. Figured I'd see what options I had, and to be honest, I simply can't bear the thought of selling it. Got a few offers, but I simply can't bring myself to even show it. A co-worker wants to give me $1500, but it's staying right here. Furthermore, the people I've met ...

Re: I am in a bad spot.

Thanks for the support, everyone. I really don't want to see it go, and I'm probably just going to deep-six it until an affordable motor comes along. I can do some body work while I wait. And to be honest, it's not worth much with an engine that sounds like a stump-grinder. I'd rather pick up a $100...

I am in a bad spot.

Ordinarily, I'd never share this. I try to remain largely positive and I abhor whiners. However, this is a strangely supportive liitle window into the web... Anyway, shortly after install, the valve-train in the '71 240 I put in my '66 started ticking away really badly, some unadjustable noise. I tr...

Re: Wild bargain paint job article: I'm trying this.

Well said, Nathan. I paid $500 for my truck, put $300 into a new Carter YF, a Duraspark and a tune-up, followed by a $125 for a used 240. While it's largely rust-free and straight, neither my budget or my interest is in line with a concourse resto, or a candy-apple custom. I've always been drawn to ...

Re: Should I move to Canada

I could live down near where Ras lives. One of my best friends lived in Holley, OR for several years. We'd swim and fish in the Upper Calapooia. I know where there's a massive petrified tree you can stand on, hard as iron, and it's hanging just under the water, waist deep over a green pool where tro...

http://www.rickwrench.com/index79master.htm?http://www.rickwrench.com/50dollarpaint.html Elbow grease seems to be the watch-word here... Plenty of it. Still, I'm interested. My best friend owns a custom shop here in Portland, and says he's seen a few of these jobs come out surprisingly well. He'd v...

Re: Wild bargain paint job article: I'm trying this.

A dozen years ago, a friend sprayed his VW at a local sanitation company's shop... He did the classic Bus in the obvious two-tone style--in semi-gloss dark-brown and beige--because that's the colors the sanitation company painted their dumpsters, trucks, and yard equipment. I saw the van recently, a...

Re: Should I move to Canada

Yeah, the Central and Eastern parts of my state are stunningly pretty, largely arid, and home to very few people. Southern Oregon is similarly populated, and extremely scenic. The downside of both places is the near total lack of an economy. Due to such a constraint I live in Portland, which is a wo...

Re: new owner with lots of questions.

Welcome from Oregon. My '66 has a factory 3.50 rear end, and the 303 tranny. I'm getting about 18 mpg mixed driving, though I'm running a Carter YF carb and a Duraspark II distributor, which is fired off a four-pin HEI. It is a wonderful set-up and easy to install. I too, have the fruit-jar master c...

Re: Should I move to Canada

Consider Eastern Oregon, too. Gorgeous, very unpopulated, utterly Liberatrian (the best kind of liberals and the best kind of conservatives), and rust-free trucks abound. I bought a '75 Jeep Cherokee outside of North Powder for $2000. It had a 258 I-6, twin-stick Dana 18, factory 44s, and 68K origin...
