Re: Removing Volare suspension

There's nothing wrong with the volare front end. It's the right width, has a workable bolt pattern, the steering is just fine, the height is adjustable, and it's already in there. Why would you want to change to a setup that is too wide? I guess I'm saying give it some thought before you go for the ...

air flap and housing needed

Still need the part. It's going to be winter before you know it! Hi. I still need this part. I found a 1966 but the part was totally different. Must be 61-64, I guess . I need the passenger side air flap and housing - the one that feeds the heater on my 62. It connects between the body on the passen...

Re: Hydroboost on the cheap

Update. I bought a 1993 chevy 3500 hydroboost unit. I was clean and so was the truck I got it from Bought the whole shebang, including hydro lines and brake cylinder and lines. I think it was 93 bucks or so. Hydroboosts are all the same as far as I can tell, as long as you pay attention to the advic...

Re: Naked people !!!

I agree that an "instant" picture upload would bring the forum more posts. Hoping that the techies can figure it out. I would like to be able to post pics to a build forum without a Photobucket ad built in, but now it looks like the best solution.

Hydroboost on the cheap

Because of anticipated clearance problems on my '62, I would like to install a hydraulic brake booster - you know, the kind that diesels, f350s, or late model Chevys use. I went to the junkyard today and there were several trucks with the booster available. Which booster have you folks used, and wha...

Steering Box Part Needed

When I brought my 62 flareside home I noticed that the steering wheel took almost 1 complete revolution to move the front wheels at all. I found that the 3-bolt cover on the box was broken and allowing the shaft to wallow around. I need a cover! The one with 3 bolts and an adjustmentt screw. Thanks,...

Re: Tire sizes for lifted 1965 twin I beam?

The big questions are how much you are willing to trim the fenders and how hard you are going to run the truck. 35s were the standard on 2wd desert trucks but the fenders needed modification. 33s are a little better. The trucks we ran in the desert used FULL wheel travel though. John at Autofab can ...

Gettin ready for SlickStock

Day 296 . Here are some photos of my truck build taken 296 days before SlickStock. The front end I am installing is a 1996 Lexus SC300. It is 63 inches wide and fits the frame perfectly. It clears the 223 oil pan with about 2 inches to spare. The Lexus front end has gotten a bad rap because parts a...

Re: I made my coon ass mind up

I think bruceanderson had a great suggestion when he wondered if a brake booster could be used with a hydraulic clutch. Packaging concerns aside, it could make for a very light clutch. I can't think of any reason why it's not doable. Also, a T85 overdrive trans does not need the clutch to shift, at ...

Re: 390 and C6

I hear you loud and clear, MN66. My dilemma is that if I spend enough time and money on the truck so that it is pretty much guaranteed to make it there and back, it will still look like a rusty hunk of junk. Can't do both the body and mechanicals and have enough cash to do the trip. I hope Iceman is...
