Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

One step closer to my t5 conversion, found a 3 speed bellhousing here locally for $75! I am pretty excited because it seems like these can be hard to find http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k315/fiveoh108/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_4434.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k315/fiveoh108/Mobile%20Uploads/...

Re: New project - 65 Mercury Gasser

Tell me again how this is a period correct "gasser"... Some people will just never get it... i agree with you a 100% Frankie...this truck is a modified something or street freak, the term "gasser" is thrown around to freely and eventually loses its meaning to a lot of peo...

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project

Both of those trucks look cool. I think I am going to scuff mine, tape it off and spray it Wimbledon white, while I am working on it. At least it will look presentable enough while I'm working on it.

Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

Got the truck lowered by taking out the bottom two springs in the front and two of the rear springs from each rear spring pack. I got new rear u bolts and put spacers in the front axel u bolts to take up the slack from the extra length of the U bolts from the removed leaf springs. Steel pilot bushin...

Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

Thanks 390fastback, I am leaning towards the rocket racing wheels, with the cast center. Then will paint the grill to match, with a grey interior... So many decisions! So many dreams, but one step at a time

Trying to decide between rims, rocket racing "strike" or torq thrust originals. The tocket racing one comes with cast or polished finish.. My third option would be cragars . Any input would be appreciated ! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k315/fiveoh108/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_3631.jpg http...

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project

I love the direction your going with the truck. I have painted patches of 5 shades of blue on mine, but decided last week I'm going to stick with its original Wimbledon White color. Instead of the stock brown seat, I'm going to do black as well as a two tone black/ white dash/ door panels. I picked ...

Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

Started to work on my passenger door, grinding off all the old paint, mostly bondo! Then a lot of hammer and dolly work. I also have to make a patch panel for the lower front of the door. http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k315/fiveoh108/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_4261.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums...

Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

I tried oreillys, kragen, autozone, car quest, truck businesses, offroad shops, HotRod shops, metal fabricators, RV trailer shops, machinists, and finally ordered them from General spring in Kansas City. Should be here next week.

Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

Got it down to 5 springs and made a custom center bolt with my angle grinder. Where can I find 5/8 rod by 2 1/4 square U bolts. They are elusive! http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k315/fiveoh108/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_4176.jpg http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k315/fiveoh108/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_4177....

Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

How is the build coming along? Did you get the rear lowered? No, dang work has gotten in the way again! Maybe this weekend I'll get some stuff done. I did get all three hood chrome pieces from ebay for a really good deal and windshield stainless trim from a custom cab that I think will look good. I...

Re: 1961 Short Bed UniBody build

Got the cab mounts welded to the floor pan and all bolted in today, welding upside down is not fun! Working on lowering the back right now with longer shackles and removing a couple leaves, I think I can get at most 2 1/2" of drop, still better than a major modification.
