Re: Non Slick 4 x 4 conversion question
A few years ago I was all about 4x4 conversions and taking perfectly good vehilces and changing them to different configurations. Now adays I would recomend keeping and driving your 2wd and build and repair your 4x4 . That way you save a truck and end up with two.

Re: Looking for your thoughts on engine build.
It depends on your intended primary use of the truck . For the street with not much towing your plan is fine, for lots of towing or hauling and crawling offroad your going to want an RV or low end high torque style camshaft.

Re: Distributor
I don't blame you for wanting a newer style ignition on your truck. Have you put a timing light on your current setup to see what it's doing as far as advancing? Over the years I've ran just about every style (load o matic, regular points with mechanical advance, duraspark, pertronics conversions ,ec...

Re: Distributor
Most of the time theres a number stamped or cast directly on the distributor. Have also saw them with just a tag. If you do swap to a 300 distributor I recomend a duraspark unit , looks like rock auto has them for like 45 dollars with no core charge. Whats wrong with your current one?

Glad to see your truck running. I'm also liking your m38 ,playing with jeeps is fun to. My flatfender is a 42 gpw. Are you going to start a m38 thread here or somewhere like the g503 forum.

Re: 1961 4X4 engine and transmission install
There's several ways to do what your asking. Does your transmission have a mount to bolt to a crossmember? If so ,you will need fab or buy an aftermarket front and rear crossmember. Now if your transmission has no mount you will need a bellhousing for an fe with mounts like your y block bell your tr...
