Thanks. Still lots of little things to do but at least I can start driving it and using it. Headliner, visors, seat changes, AC, maybe sway bars. I'm sure the list will grow.

Re: sitting here with a broken leg, good time to post..

With factory mixed colors there should be a batch number on the cans. If both cans have the same batch number you should not have to blend them together.

Re: How Much Tongue Weight Can The Frame Handle?

I moved one years ago with a pickup, not on the road. First went to use my 78 F150 4x4, class 3 trailer hitch bolted to the frame and extra leaves in the rear spring pack. Lowering the tongue jack it took the back of the truck right down to the axle snubbers. Switched over to my brothers 77 F250 Hig...

Re: Electric crate motor swap into a skick.

I'd consider it in the future maybe. Not sure what is available right now but I saw something the other day about Chevy bringing out an electric crate motor of some sort. I believe they had one in a 70's Blazer. I think the cost to convert something though along with the engineering and fab work wil...

I'm sure the Comet is nice but I really like the Ranchero and the M700. He has built some really cool cars/trucks.

Re: Non Slick 4 x 4 conversion question

It's more than just rivets. Unless you were going to put in a lot of lift you would need to cut out the Twin I Beam crossmember. Not that it can't be done but my first choice given the two trucks you have would be to put the 71 body on the 4x4 chassis. Are there problems with the 4x4 chassis? I have...

Looks good. How is the steering wheel with the horn ring so close to it?
We've got over half a foot of snow so far and maybe another foot to come.

What is the split bench out of? Not the old Firebird sitting behind it.

Re: 1966 F100 Camper Special, short bed and 4x4 conversion

Just wanted to let anyone who is following along on this build know that I started a build thread on FTE. I think this was a great site years ago but for some reason has sort of died out. I will continue to watch the builds that are still going on here since there are some great trucks and guys work...

Depends on your skill level and welding ability. There are lots of YouTube videos on how to do it, watch a few and decide if it is something you want to try. You can find a local shop to do it for you.

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project

They are cool wheels. I like like steel wheels on old trucks. I have two 15x8 plain steel wheels that may end up on mine but I need to find two more to match. In the mean time I have a set of factory steel rally wheels from the 80's that I'll probably use.

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project

That's interesting. I was expecting you to tell us it tucked right under. On the 65 4x4 I've been wrenching on, I swapped under the same rear axle, a Dana 44, from a late 70's 2wd f100 so I could use an e-locker for off road. I've got factory Bullet style aluminum wheels from a later model F150 and...

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project

I believe there are different carrier bearing sizes also, not sure what either of your axles are but would assume the 64 has the smaller bearing. If the 75 is large bearing I think you can just swap the bearings over, the bearing ID is the same on both I think. If the tires will fit with the wider 7...

Spline counts are different. Our trucks are 28 spline vs the newer 31 spline.

With 2.72 rear you should be able to use 1st. The truck 4 spds with granny 1st gear are around 6:1.

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project

Are your rear tires going to fit under the fender with the '77 axle? Hard to tell until you try and easy to change but I think 2.72 might be going to far. It might put your rpms to low, not enough power, lugging the engine, more downshifts out of overdrive, etc. Will certainly be interesting to see ...

Re: Steve's 64 Short-bed Project

I never even checked runout on all of the shafts I did and never had a problem. I'd weld it up and try it. So if I just weld it up and drive it....I won't have any vibration? I've never had a problem and never had one balanced. I've always taken as much care as I could to make sure they were straig...
