Re: '62 F100 Uni - yes another Crown Vic swap

Cool looking project. Check out this gauge I'm using in my 1961 that's running on crown vic parts. It plugs into the OBD2 port and is a little sleeker than trying to run the stock gauges. It was only $80 and all of the fields are able to be customized. That's really cool, who makes - sells them? Fo...

Re: Hot rod Garage new project

The Crown Vic swap is great if your truck needs basically everything. I was able to pick up my donor Grand Marquis for $800, (but it did need a trans rebuild). I got the entire car for less than I could have gotten a Mustang 2 set up.

Cool episode of Hot Rod Garage BTW, thanks for the heads up.

Re: Budget bagged 65

I used a technique called "Z'ing" the frame. Basically I cut the frame rails on each side of the front cross member (left & right and also front & behind). Then I raised the section with the cross member 3". This allowed the frame/body to lay all the way down when the front su...

Re: Budget bagged 65

I bagged my 61 using a CV cross-member. This set up isn't ideal for bags due to camber issues, (it's almost as bad as I-beams in terms of camber). With that said I used one because my truck needed so much. My truck was essentially a rolling chassis and body. I was able to use the front suspension, e...

Re: Longbed end cap on a Short Bed Unibody

I actually had to add in that 1/2" section near the bottom of the endcap to keep the tailgate hinge lined up correctly. You can see it in the second to last picture.

Day 2 wrote:Thats looking good, one question! Are the tailgates different from shortbed to longbed? Since the ends are different....just wondering. Thanks
I'm not sure on that one and I bought the truck with no tailgate, so I can't check easily.

Longbed end cap on a Short Bed Unibody

After a fair amount of searching I was only able to come up with an end cap from a long bed to replace the mangled end cap on my 1961 F100 short bed unibody. I was told the body lines wouldn't match up and that was definitely the case. After a couple test fittings I found that after aligning the bod...

Re: Recommendations for Body Repair

Update: I ended up driving out to Flashback F100s and buying the long bed end cap for $200. I had no luck anywhere else with a short bed style, so I'll have to modify that body line. I'm not looking forward to it. Anyway, I'm glad I was able to drive out to Flashback's, Tom is a nice enough guy and ...

Re: Recommendations for Body Repair

Hey guys. No updates yet. I am strongly considering getting the long bed end cap from Flashback F100s and modifying the body line to match the short bed. While I'm not great at pulling dents and things like that I have experience with metal fabrication and modifying body parts. Unfortunately the dud...

Re: straight axle drop

I found this one on Craigslist. Looks like the guy did a c-notch and some sort of link system for the front axle.

Re: Recommendations for Body Repair

I found an entire rear bed section on Craigslist. The guy lives down in FL (I'm in NC). He wants $380 for both end caps connected by the roll pan and a small section of bed floor. I think shipping is going to kill me on this thing, especially since I only need the one side. I realize I can recoup so...

Re: Recommendations for Body Repair

I contacted Flashback F100s and he does have a bed corner, but it's from a long bed. What are the differences between the two end caps, they look pretty similar to me. http://www.2040-cars.com/_content/cars/images/67/503667/004.jpg http://static2.classiccarliquidators.com/inventory/Ford_1961_Unibody...

Re: Recommendations for Body Repair

Thanks for the replies everyone. I've sent Flashback F100s an email, hopefully they have something. National parts depot does make a tailgate post, so i may go that route. For now I'm going to work on getting this bed square again. To 64 f100; I have a short wheel base truck, but I'd be interested i...

Recommendations for Body Repair

What do you guys think I should do? I knew I was going to have some issues with the drivers side bed corner on my 61 F100. I had no Idea it would be as bad as it is. I don't see any replacement panels online and this level of body work is way past my skill level. Most importantly, I need to get the ...

Re: 1964 Body Builders Layout Book getting scanned...

Wow, that is really detailed. Do you know if anything like this exists for the uni-bodies? I tried a couple of google searches that didn't really produce results. I was able to find earlier and later years though.
