Re: getting her out of hibernation

I'll be doing the same once we get a good heavy rain or two to wash all the salt/brine mix the city sprays on our streets in the winter. We've also had a terrible winter for potholes, but I'm not waiting for the city to fix them. They'll be at it until June. No offense to the hard-working street cre...

I was lucky enough to go to Barrett-Jackson

I just got back from Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale. I was able to use my miles and stay with relatives so it wasn't too expensive. I only remember seeing a few slicks there; a 61 unibody, a 66 down-low F100, a slick firetruck, maybe a 62 F350 and a 64 F100. All very nice. The only one I saw getting ...

Re: Beware of Rock Auto

I've bought a number of parts for a 1969 Wagoneer that I'm restoring without a single problem. I go to them when the local stores can't help. They've always handled returns quickly and fairly. I suspect you may have been sold parts someone returned and swapped other shocks for. It happens all the ti...

Re: Differences between 2wd and 4x4

The one exception to most of the Slick 4x4s is the 1966 F100. Those trucks were available in short boxes and had a Dana 21 transfer case; 4x4 or 4x2 no neutral or 4 low. The 1966 F100s also had the correct styleside bed 64-66. The obvious differences for 61-65 f100 and 61-66 F250: 57-60 wrong bed, 4...

Haven't seen any Slicks at local yards in a while

In the last year or so, I haven't seen but one or two Slicks at our local pick-n-pull yards. In years before, it seemed like there were always one or two at each yard, but no more. Maybe the price of scrap is low, maybe all the nearby Slicks have already been scrapped, I don't know. I go to the yard...

Re: 62/63 Passenger side door emblem

I've been around slicks for about 30 years now and never saw this before. Goes to show you, you can learn something new every day. When I first read your post title I thought you might have meant the "Custom Cab" trim piece which goes under the steering wheel. That I believe is 63 and 64 o...

A lot of guys are probably like me, they came to this site years ago looking for info while they were restoring their projects or looking for help with a certain problem. When the projects were done or when they found what they were looking for, they tend to move on. I've been involved in other non-...

Re: Fords big news ... only two cars !

What happened to government ordered fuel mandates? Ford can't possibly meet those mandates with trucks and suvs. We have both a 2013 F150 and a 2015 Escape and neither one gets better than 15mpg city. If only I could sock away a few Ford coupes or sedans for future use.

Re: What did you do to your slick that you wish you didn't d

I went to all of the trouble getting the gear and lightning bolt embossed on the upper seat panel from SMS in Oregon and then used fabric from the local upholstery shop. I've often why I didn't order the correct seat fabric too. I even got samples from SMS first. It was a long time ago, but I just c...

Re: 1961 F100 4X4 Bed Question.

Yes, and don't forget the wooden spacers between each hole in the bed and the frame. I'm not sure of the type of wood, but I used the tightest grain I could find at a wood working shop (I don't recall what it was) and painted them with POR15. They look exactly the same as when I installed them. Pers...

Closed knuckle is a ball at the end of the axle that fits over the spindle. This is a seal for a closed knuckle: http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q174/tomsrod/D44SMALLWIPERKIT.jpg . You remove the eight bolts holding the metal halves on and drain the ball. Cut the felt on one side and place it bac...

Re: Disc brakes on a 66 4x4

There is a disc conversion kit on ebay for F100s now, not sure how to post the link. There also was one for F250s, but that was a while ago. If yours is a F250, it would be better to use a disc brake axle from a late 70s F250. I kept the drum brakes on mine and just added a dual master cylinder, pow...

He can make one Michelle, but he needs the size in inches. Disregard the numbers outside the black box.

He only has the 2wd/4wd label for the two speed transfer cases. If someone has that one, he can probably recreate that too.

New source for visor labels for 4x4s

I spoke to a guy who can make very nice transfer case labels for the sun visor on 4x4s. The bottom photo shows his before he cleaned it up and the top one after. They cost $10. Send me a pm for his contact information. He expects a three to four week turn around and will place an order in the next f...

Re: 1965 4x4 transfer case shift knob

I can't seem to find a photo, but my avatar shows the two speed transfer case shift knob. The photo is from the 1966 Owner's Manual. The 1966 F100 4x4 was the only one that had the single speed.
