Re: water pump/overheating head scratcher
Uhh, "block side suction"? That would be "recirculation"! I don't think that would be a good thing! Ok, based on your comment, I think I've misunderstood the coolant flow. Does this highly detailed, beautifully drawn diagram seem accurate? http://dave.sobr.org/enc/1530631...

Re: water pump/overheating head scratcher
Where was you reading at before. I was running a 195F thermostat since December and it pretty much always stayed right there. I took multiple interstate trips at 60mph and never had any issues. On the way back from work today in the heat (85F in Birmingham) it topped out about 180F at 50mph. I firs...

water pump/overheating head scratcher
A couple of weekends ago I replaced the timing cover gasket on my 240. It had a bad leak. While I was in there I figured go ahead and replace water pump and thermostat just for insurance. The water pump still spun fine, but was badly rusted internally. The FoMoCo I removed looked like this: https://...

Yes, I have paypal and can ship. Never shipped anything that heavy though, so any ideas you have to keep the shipping cost low is welcome.

slip yoke leak
I'm going through and replacing all of the leaking seals and gaskets in the engine and drivetrain (did timing cover this past weekend). I noticed yesterday the slip yoke seal on the trans extension housing is leaking pretty bad. It's a 3.03 trans. Is that a readily available part?

resistor wire - just pay the postage
I have a brand new ignition resistor wire for a 65 if anyone needs it. I converted to EI so it's just sitting there. Just pay the postage on it and you can have it.

Does this help (pic is too big to show in the post)? '65 is the only diagram I have, but maybe they're similar.

16" innie wheel
I have a 16" "innie" wheel that was the spare on my truck. I got a new 15" outie at the junkyard to match the rest so this ones needs a home. Anyone need it?

About to do the same thing right now myself since my previous rubber mat disintegrated. I'd be interested in the results of whatever you decide.

Re: Bosch Tachometer / Painless wiring
The ignition wire should give you that right? The one that comes from the key and Y's into the distributor and the starter solenoid.

Re: tire destroyed itself - advice on replacements?
Ended up getting Hankook H724 tires on Saturday. They are the only affordable white-walls I could find that had a good mileage warranty (75,000). Man, the truck drives so much better with new tires. I feel dumb for not realizing that sooner. Oddly, the specs on their site doesn't list or show the wh...

Re: for some reason this was important
it's always better to look good.......then run good. Poetry. :-) And, I give you the freshly painted air cleaner and custom cut spark plug cables (in red of course). Now that ugly oil filler cap sticks out like a sore thumb. He's next: http://dave.sobr.org/enc/1529209848.7_aircleanerandwires.jpg

Re: Timing - plug gap?
"HEI causes high RPM misfires!" How "high" is high? I gapped them up to .045 tonight and took about a 30 minute drive to the grocery store and back. Some stop and go, and some 55 mph streches. Ran really good. I think I'll stay at this for about 500 miles and check the plugs and...

Re: Timing - plug gap?
Thanks for the info on plug gap. I’ll bump up to .045 and see how things run. My driving style is very grandma. I don’t drive fast at all, and the vacuum advance seems to be working fine. Just felt like 12 degrees seemed a little high but maybe it’s fine for this engine at this age. I know my TDC is...

Timing - plug gap?
After putting in the new HEI distributor the engine seems happiest at about 12 degrees btdc at idle. If I gap the plugs open more (currently .032) could I bring the timing down a bit? It’s a 50,000 volt coil.

Houston, we have ignition. Purrs like a kitten now. for some reason this was important
Currently my truck doesn't run because I have to install a new distributor. It also needs new tires because the current ones are dangerous. But for some reason I though it was important to wire-wheel, prep and paint the valve cover in period correct red-orange. http://dave.sobr.org/enc/1528919922.32...

Re: no spark - very hot coil
it may be pricey in comparison, but will offer some confidence as opposed to the quality of replacement points/ condensers these days. I ended up ordering a Ford modified HEI distributor with the coil and electronics and everything in the cap for that very reason. Definitely not cheap but makes me ...

Re: no spark - very hot coil
Plugs gap: .032 Points gap: .025 Dwell: 40 My dad and I worked on this all day and ended up running an entire new ignition circuit with a new resistance wire (Motorcraft# DY-37) from the key all the way through to the starter solenoid and coil. Still same rough idling and dying issue. I think the ve...
