Re: my shipwrecked '63
680 for machining. 800 for the kit... 400 for the con rods. And 100 for misc stuff and a rocker assembly I got from another member. I paid 200 for the engine off craigslist last year too. I'm just about throwing money at this little engine and truck. Thanks for sharing. I wasn't trying to be nosy. ...

Re: my shipwrecked '63
Oh, and I would also get rid of the oil filter can setup and switch to a spin- adapter. Less messy at change time and easy to get FL-1 filters anywhere

Re: my shipwrecked '63
That little six cylinder is going to make a great engine for you. I had one that went bad and i replaced it with 292 v8. Do you mid asking what you think you will have in to the rebuild on the engine?

Re: 223 oil pan info?
Yes, I think so. The pans I had were both center towards the rear. sold them both and have nothing to look at now, sorry couldn't be more help. they were truck pans though, maybe you have a passenger car?

Re: 292 yblock with new clutch assembly/223 - 6 transmission
That makes sense about the diameter of the pressure plate fingers, although I don't have my original to compare right now. I may have already screwed the pooch by shortening the collar. I did resolve the pedal issue and I THOUGHT the clutch issue. I've checked the linkage over several time and nothi...

Re: 292 yblock with new clutch assembly/223 - 6 transmission
When you say the "clutch pedal went almost straight to the floor? barely engaging," do you mean it went to the floor with no resistance, as in it's not even pushing on the pressure plate or there is resistance but the clutch does not disengage? Yes Charlie- I pushed the pedal down with no...

Re: 292 yblock with new clutch assembly/223 - 6 transmission
Well, I thought I had it figured out and fixed this morning. It turns out the fingers of the new pressure plate were hitting the hub of the clutch disc. And they were also coming in contact with the input shaft collar. My thoughts were, trim or grind down the finger slightly, or trim the input shaft...

292 yblock with new clutch assembly/223 - 6 transmission
Have a 64 f100 long bed came with a tired 223. Switched over a year or so ago to a used 292, got the proper bell housing and clutch assembly (I think?). Kept the 3sp manual from the six and all has gone fine driving and shifting. Except the engine I got was worn out. So, I got another used 292, this...

Re: engine carnage with pics
Ice, the good news is ,it is a yblock and will survive. It may smoke but it will keep on going!. I have one that has VERY worn cylinders and guides. Uses oil and smokes out the neighborhood for mosquitoes!. But it still gets a lot of work done. I have another used engine standing by that has very lo...

Re: Greed and oportunists
Agreed with most of the comments. I must admit I bought my truck with not losing money on it when it comes time to sell. I have also put lots of hard work and money into it. When a serious buyer shows up they should have cash on hand and know a good deal for both. EBAY an CL insulate most people fro...

Re: 292 C4 conversion
IMHO if I had an original auto in a 64 I would have it overhauled and I think you would be money ahead. + that's a somewhat unusual combo for its day. The C4 to me isn't much of an improvement in the long run unless you find one new for extra cheap. I've done an AOD adapted to a High performance ybl...

Re: I need a camshaft education
Contrary to Toyz comment, There are not a lot of "performance" cams for that engine, AND definitely NO hydraulic lifters. IF you replace the cam it is well advised to replace the solid lifters as well. Make sure you get USA made solid lifters. Mummert does handle a camshaft that may be a l...

Re: Looking for some guidance on a worn out 302...
THere's nothing wrong with taking the time to learn how to build an engine. Lots of good books on that particular one as well. However anymore there is not really a way to get one done cheaply. Machine work is the primary thing you will have to pay normal rate for. Parts, well you just have to shop ...

Re: Transmission Rebuild
IMHO you have a slightly unusal truck there. Why can't you check the VIN tag? It will tell you what the truck came with. One doesn't see many auto/292's. Personally I would try to keepit that way or sell it if you CAN get that kind of money. I have done that trans conversion before and frankly a C4 ...

Yep, I like it!
I preferred it with the wheels in grey or whatever he had going on there for a second.
Also I have nothin' against longbeds. So…
Excellent concept follow thru and workmanship.

Re: Y-Block in Engine Masters
Charlie, I have to say your reporting is better than what the magazine is attempting! As far as my thinking any more entries in the mix is great for us y blockers. But man did Kasse go after those aluminum heads with a vengeance! Talk about thinking outside the box. Didn't like seeing that c***** in...
