After closer inspection, I think you’re right.

Re: Straight Sixin' '63
I pulled the column and it needed a rebuild bad. The shift tube was missing a tab for the shift lever to go into and the lower column bearing was not even in the column. It also did not have the bearing cup that seats the bearing. Luckily I had a 65 column to compare and attempt to pull parts off of...

Re: Shift Tube Comparison
Thanks for the help Tom. I'm going to try to make a tab like that to weld on. I'll make sure I get an O-ring. My tube was pretty ate up.

Shift Tube Comparison
I pulled the steering column on my '63 to rebuild it and get rid of the slop. I'd like to say thanks to shipwrecked for the video or her column disassembly, it was really helpful :thumright: I'm thinking I'm missing a piece on my shift tube, but I haven't been able to find a good picture of a pre-65...

Re: Autolite 1100 constant maintenance
Is the diaphragm itself getting a hole in it or does it just start leaking? Sometimes the metal cover can get slightly warped from over tightening which will allow it to leak pre maturely. FWIW I ran a rebuild kit from Mike’s Carburetors and had zero issues with leaking or deterioration. I think the...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63
Video of the truck running now. It's way better than it was but I can't tell if that sounds like something knocking or not.

Re: Straight Sixin' '63
Finally got the tig welder setup after almost 2 years. Had to weld a new stud onto the old manifold. The thing popped and crackled but I think it’ll stick. After that I did a valve adjustment, not one was within spec  Truck runs smooth now. I still have to paint up the oil bath then I’ll move...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63
There was a suspect spot near where the exhaust valve rod was. On the outside it looked like a possible 1/4” line, but there was no crack on the inside. So I guess it’s good?
If this stuff doesn’t hold up I’ll try the BBQ paint.

Re: my shipwrecked '63
That's exciting! You're so close! It looks like your valve is closed at the moment. If you have trouble seeing your timing marks I'd suggest setting your timing with a vacuum gauge. In my opinion it works better that just setting it by the number. Can't wait to see that you finally took it out!

Re: Straight Sixin' '63
Thanks zax. That’s exactly what happened to mine, except it was in my snowy driveway  Managed to get the intake manifold degreased and wire wheeled. I’m going to sandblast it next weekend and get it ready for install. Next up is exhaust and valve cover. https://i.postimg.cc/P5X46p9X/FCE124-E6-C...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63
Got the valve cover and intake/exhaust manifold pulled. It came off really easy. Gunna clean everything up and get a new muffler and tail pipe. Seems like there was alot of gunk up top. Gunna try to clean the head up as much as possible before the valve cover goes back on and make sure that enough o...

Re: Straight Sixin' '63
Hope everyone had a great Christmas/ New year. I made it my resolution to do at least one thing on the truck every month, no matter how small. Progress on the truck has been slow. I did manage to pull it out of the back yard up to my work area. Pulled the carb and rebuilt it, it was pretty gunked up...

Re: New Truck
Thanks guys! But if maintained... the mileage these new trucks get is pretty darn impressive ! I am quite impressed. I live in the Catskill mountains. My drive to work is an hour, half Catskills half highway, and I’m averaging about 22-23. And the power this little four banger has is very unexpected!

New Truck
Well I sold my ‘87 F150 and then traded in my econobox Kia and picked up a new Ranger. I’m a little leery of all the electronics in it, probably because I’ve been driving beaters and old Fords for the last ten years, but I love it. It’s nice to own something new for once. It’s a 2019 Ranger XLT 4x4 ...

Re: Bored out cylinders and valve lash.
Check base timing and advance. It sounds as if you may have a mis-match between carb and distributor. I put a “new” rebuilt carburetor on it a year and a half ago and rebuilt the dizzy (diaphragm was bad). I’m still rocking the load-o-matic setup. The timing marker is no longer on the engine so I’v...
