Jerry, the problem most likely is in the valve body. You get to that by pulling the pan. I would first recommend spending the $20 or so on a C-6 pan with a drain plug in it. Engine will NOT rev up in park. It will idle just fine but give it some gas and it bogs down. Put the trans in neutral and it will rev to high heaven.
