Finally...Got the 65 home
Finally...Got the 65 home
I finally after putting a deposit on this truck 3 weeks ago go the 65 home last night. In the dark I pulled the remnants of the rear bumper off and dechromed the sides. It is hard for me to believe I am so fired up right now, like a kid on Christmas morning.
I am heading down to the tire store to order some wheels with a bit more shine to them this morning. Probably Billet Specialties Vintecs, 18s on the front and 20s on the back. I gotta drain the tank, clean the carb, and probably dial in the curve on the distributor. After all that it should run well enough to enjoy while I fine tune this and that to my image of what the truck should be
The wheels I like, good old school look them.

The best part about the whole deal is I sold a 57 Blow Tie I have been sitting on for 22 years, and ended up with enough cash to buy this truck and have a 7000 left over to doll up the 65. The worst part is the 57 was a 51000 mile original my grandad bought new. Took a while to get OK with that part.

Yes, I think 20s are definetly too much tire/wheel. The wheel wheels on these old trucks are pretty small. Today's cars have huge wheel wells so the proportions look better. In addition, I think it will sit too high and look like a 4x4. IMO, 17s would be as big as I'd get.

I don't recall how big Foose went on that Overhaulin' Slick, but I wouldn't go any bigger. Notice too that it was lowered quite a bit. I think you'll need to do that as well to get the stance right. Even with 17s I think it will look like a 4x4 unless lowered. Check out gallery pic no. 9 below:
