Bucket seats
anyone out there got decent bucket seats in their truck? preferably the 65-66 floor pan type
I want to put buckets in my truck - had picked up a set of GM style with the integral shoulder harnesses but way too tall to work
Open to just about any suggestions as this is holding me up to get truck back on the road
if you did a successful install - do you have pics of the rails and mounts
thanks

Re: Bucket seats
Get a hold of Bill and get his Ranger brackets for Mustang seats. Speedway Motors sells a knockoff of the Mustang seat. I just put Bill's brackets on the other lo-back Speedway sells and there is some fab work to make them fit. Not huge but it isn't a simple bolt it deal. The Mustang style seat should be better than what I used. Here's a link to Speedway's Mustang seat

Hey, LM14, is that the '65 Palomino color on your seats? I'm also curious about your underdash AC. Where can I see more pics of it?
Sorry for the diversion, Turtle!
Re: Bucket seats
Don't know what color they are. Were in it when we traded trucks.

Re: Bucket seats
Those are good looking seats. I wonder how they fit and blend in with a oem Mustang interior.
I have seen many threads on the Mustang boards about seats, but no mention of these.

65/66 T-Bird seat will fit , I think all the newer seat every body has tried either sit too high or too close to the wheel

Re: Bucket seats
I snagged a set out of a 88 Mustang Conv. for $40 on CL...I'll have to fab a bracket but they fit pretty dang well...have headrest and shoulder belt loop (but I plan on removing both when I recover them)...they are just sitting in there in the pic...not installed obviously, so the outside is sitting lower since they aren't on the correct bracket
Re: Bucket seats
Whatever you use make sure the back section is thin.
A low back seat with a headrest that tilts a little forward might be OK.
The biggest problem with later buckets in these trucks is they don't "cup" over the gas tank.
This puts you too close to the steering wheel if you are 5.8 or taller.
Also they can't be laid back to a reasonable angle because the headrest hits the glass.
You don't want to go over a bump and blow out your back window - yes it can happen.
I had a pair of Tempo buckets in my 62 and they really weren't that great for these reasons and Tempo is a pretty small car.
You will have a few more options if you relocate the tank under the bed.
If you decide to go with a early Mustang bucket anyway - look around all the early mustang suppliers and have a little patience.
Invariably someone will put the repop seat covers on sale fairly frequently.
Another advantage to early mustang seats - they make enough stuff to turn an old set new again.
A headrest could likely be adapted to them too - may have been an option on 68ish cars?

Re: Bucket seats
guess i may have to stick with my 91 Ranger F150 XLT bench seat... which is interesting that it fits ok, even when the truck had a tank and it has huge headrests
keep em coming - someoen has done this lots of times if one pays attention to how many trucks show up in pics with buckets, and appear to fit well

Re: Bucket seats
how do I go about getting ahold of bill for a set of the ranger brackets?
Re: Bucket seats
I have a 92 Ranger. Those seats crossed my mind but without actually trying them I didn't want to lead you wrong.
Now, if your Ranger bench works OK then the Ranger buckets should also be fine, this means you have the option of Bronco II buckets, I don't know for sure about the back contour but the Explorer seats are very similar (and some are the same) too.
There's a few things to look at at least for you.

OK, same difference (sort of).
The 91 cab is VERY similar as in nearly identical to a 92-96 - those trucks could be had with bucket seats and even had a center "jump seat" or console option.
Not sure about the back window clearance I mentioned but close enough to check out, BTW, there were also buckets with a headrest in full size Broncos.
If your 91 seat works these should be at least close.
You still might wanna take a look at a Ranger, Bronco II, Explorer seat - they are common, pretty comfortable and may work.
