4-speed swap

Post by doc »

Any big surprises when swapping in a 4-speed (no-granny, non-truck performance style) into a '66 w/ a present 352/3-on-the-tree?

The truck will lose all haulin' duties (I have an F-250 HD for that) & just be a cruiser of sorts.....

Thanks!

Depends on which tranny you go with, but generally there is enough room in these to put almost any tranny in. Just might require some fabbing of cross members if unusual.

What four speed non granny you talkin about?

The T-18/19 and NP-435s have granny lows

(does the NP even have an available FE bell???)

No go on the five speed M5OD and ZF trannys

Yes, the NP 435 was offered on FEs for years.

I wouldn't swap in a M5OD tranny in my worst enemy's truck...had my fill of those w/ two trucks. ZF is a nice truck trans, but not swapping in a 429/460 or small block now.

I was thinking toploader 4-speed (non-overdrive) as the truck will just be a cruiser from now on.....

I found the info needed yesterday on another site.

Thanks!

You guys want a manual tranny that has the best of all worlds??

Here it is:

an NV4500 manual 5 speed

1st is a granny low, like the NP435, and 5th is an overdrive. This can be bolted up to an FE with a bellhousing adapter.
