Bronco/F150 Hub Cap Plastic Insert

Post by William-in-St George »

I am using a set of Bronco wheels on my red truck. Got them cheap and they are in for powder coat. Bought a couple of replacement caps off ebay and now for the question. I don't like the round plastic center cap siliconed to the hub cap. Does anyone have a better idea or does anyone make a replacement with a Ford logo (scribed not painted)? Thanks.

William, I have never seen the Ford logo on any of the Bronco caps. The only ones I am familiar with have a red or black circle in the insert.
If you should find the Ford logo, please post; I would like to change a bunch of mine.
Edit: A quick search on eBay yielded these:http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-3-4-ford-logo-blue-Chrome-Emblem-Badge-Wheel-Sticker-Hub-CenterCap-decal/221264629153?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D19839%26meid%3D4194602898487113913%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D8934%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D360643618102%26
Think I'll measure mine and contact the seller ( before Ford legal catches up to him!)

Toyz, The diameter of the plastic plugs are 3.5 inches the hole in the hub cap is 3 1/16. Surely someone out there can make these in a CNC machine?

Get some Blue oval chrome hood/grill ornaments - they came in various sizes depending on the car (90s Escort may be about the right size).
Drill the plastic centers, mask & paint them, silicone, epoxy or whatever the logos in place - done.

Toyz and Greg. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-FACTORY-CHR ... ae&vxp=mtr I just bought these on ebay. I think the ID will catch the inner lip of the hub cap. That hole is 3 1/16. If not I'll drill the old ones and pop the new ones in and glue the entire mess to my caps. You'd think someone would be making replacements for these by now. These are OEM Ford wheels, solid, cheap and millions of them are out there. I'll post back on this.

If you don't mind I'd like to see pics of them with the center caps, during the installation, finished etc.
I have the F 150/Bronco center caps on my American racing Rodmasters too.

I'm in the same shape; I use these centers on everything! If the wheel can be drilled and tapped for the retainers, it's going to get the Bronco caps around my place! I've even been known to put knock-off centers on them!

I have a set of the early bullet hole wheels about 79 (15x6) that are going on my truck, would like to replace the 3 plastic inserts that the screws go into, have had no luck finding. Have checked auveco, dorman, all part stores, all have listing for the screws both chrome and black but not inserts. Not trying to highjack but they use the same cap.

I've used 3M trim adhesive (black) as a fix for these and the stupid lug nut covers on Brand X's. I would expect on could Heli-coil them for a permanent fix.

I thought of knock offs on these center caps too.
You have a picture Paul and where did the knockoffs come from?
The wheels I used these caps on were supposed to get knockoff caps but those have been out of production since before I got the wheels (no I wasn't told)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/331073883054?ss ... 1439.l2649 I bought these off ebay. They fit nicely and almost completely fill the original 3.5 inch center opening. On the packaging in noticed a 3.3 size. There is a small distance between the edge of the cap and the insert. I plan to paint this white and then install the new centers. On the back side I'll use silicone black to hold them in place. Overall these will make a nice change to the original caps with the faded and missing centers. These pieces are plastic made in China. It may be that Ford has OEM in metal but I am not sure about that. All in all worth the effort and $. IMHO.

Simon, Sorry I can't post pictures. I don't know how and I am to old to learn. If you look at the link in the above post and imagine these in the Bronco cap replacing the original plastic disk. This was an easy deal, I pushed out the old disk and cleaned the area. I painted a circle around area where the disk was (these replacements are just a bit smaller). The replacements are held in place with silicone. After that I polished everything up nicely and along with some new chrome lug nuts things are looking good. I did not use the beauty rings, (I think they are gaudy looking). There are several offerings for these caps on ebay and the Bronco caps as well. I wonder if Ford has these center caps in metal. The ones I bought were made in China. They look nice but I'd rather have made in the USA. IMHO.

My originals are chromed metal, Bill. Some Ford dealers may still stock them, but they were quite expensive a decade ago.l
