"Reproduction" Tach for Slicks!!!!

Post by WrongBedDave »

Ok its supposed to be for Broncos but it fits pretty nicely in our trucks. Got this tach thru Wild Horses 4x4. Its a standard ~3" electronic tach. Wired up easily with the existing wiring that I had run for my autometer tach. I did have to cut a bigger hole to fit the bigger cup. The tach takes up the whole inside of the stamped recess on the dash and then a tiny bit. Ive been using it for about a month and I have zero complaints.

Cool, it also reads higher than the originals to better match todays engine capabilities.

Thanks guys, I swapped in the oilprssure guage when I got rid of the autometer volt meter because the autometer gauge looked out of place with the new tach.

There ya go! Its $135 for the tach and you can get it with different mounts if you don't want it in the dash

It's not a bad deal I reckon. I have one of the old mechanical ones and the cost to convert it to electric was over $350, that was without refurbing the face. Even then it only ran to 4,000! If I ever get my slick back I'd go this route.

Only critisizm is the needle. They didn't match the speedo one and after so much effort to get it looking stock I wonder why they omitted this part? Anyway it's a tiny thing and wrongbeddave I think it looks great in the dash. You're probably the first on here to do it!

Oh and what did you use to cut the hole out? I'm a bit scared using a hole cutter on my drill that size!

Mine already had a hole punched out to 2 1/16 from the factory so I didn't want to use a hole saw either. Wound up taking my time and slowly grinding and cutting it down with a dremel. There are probably faster ways but that's what i thought gave me the best control.

As far as the needle being off I agree its wrong but my truck isn't a show truck and it still looks better than an autometer gauge IMO so I'm happy with it.
