Build Codes

Post by BigTim »

The folks I bought my 65 from removed the door tag. Is there another place on the truck that might have the build codes, other than what I can get from the VIN #. Also where else is the serial number on these trucks other than the door plate.

The other place for the VIN# On the 65/66 Trucks is when you take the cab off look on the pass. side of the frame rail on the top side next to the rear cab mount, since we have so many western frames here the are easy to see Good Luck Hunting

On 61-64 trucks I have seen the serial number by the inner fender on the rh side, I will check closer on these 65/66 frames we have to be sure if there is another one someplace a lot easier to find, I am looking on my western frames since they are clean to see the numbers easy

the vin is stamped into the frame in 2 places on the passenger side, one is about a foot back of the core support, the other behind the front cab mount, under the passengers floor. a good wire brushing will bring them into view.

That is right, I found both of them on the XL when I was checking the frame when I repainted it.

Does anyone make repro VIN tags for our trucks? I have seen them for Mustangs. Very good looking tags. I hate having a vehicle without the VIN tag. The frame numbers are O.K. but do not give the other info.
