Putting Power Booster on a 64...

Post by 64Ranger »

Has anyone done this before? I have a dual master cylinder, disc fronts and drum rear.
I was talking to someone at SlickStock about doing this and they said that they used a power booster from a 66 F100.
Can anyone give me more info on this??
Thanks, in advance.

Doug

Make sure if you order a kit it will fit the smaller 61 to 64 bolt pattern.

The pattern is larger for 65 66 and has an additional gusset brace spot welded to the firewall for flex.

Did you look at the booster on Christine? I used a 78 lever type ford unit and a 68 torino master drum drum unit. The stock plate needs modifying but it moves the master and booster a good 4 inches away form the engine.

I have an MP power brakes boster on my '64, have not put fluid in it yet.

Are they supposed to sit on such a goofy angle? Mine sits with the front of the reservoir about 1/2 to 1/4" lower than the back,,, I will have to jack the truck up to make it level enough to fill the brakes... :?

How much work is it to put the 78 lever style booster on? Will it accept a drum/drum master cylinder? I wouldnt mind having power drums on my 64. :D

Dan, thats what Garbz has.....

Bro. Dave.. never mind, when I first put it on I was checking and checking to see if I could flip it over or something.. just sits so cockeyed it don't look right.

One more thing.. for those who think it's a good idea to install your engine centered on the rails and NOT offset (like it should be in a Ford) ......
........HAVE FUN when you go to put on a brake booster. I have all of good finger thickness to my valve covers and mine IS offset. No way in hell that booster would have gone in there without having the engine offset.

Yep My frugality with roddoors cost me almost 300 dollars for a headliner and the same for carpet.
I could have bought both for half, the headliner from National Parts Depot and the Carpet directly from ACC

I would recommend that to anyone considering Roddoors in the future, Frugality will COST you.
