4 way flasher help

One of the things I have picked up along the way is a 4 way flasher with the flat plugs instead of the later square plugs.
I am hoping someone has a diagram or picture of how they are supposed to be installed.
I thought they were done right at one point but in all the assembly and disassembling I now have a marker light coming on when I step on the brake, and the flasher is activated with the key on even with the engine running.
I have jumppered the front marker lights, to the rear running lights. I have checked continuity with the switch divorced from the circuit and all is well.
The four plugs that adapt to the turn signal loom have different colors so maybe I have them attached wrong
