F-100 Axle optioins???

Post by 65TremecGT »

Hey all, my dad and I just picked up a parts truck 65 F-100 Longbed. It does not have a 9" rear, looks like some kind of Dana but its 5 lug. It has a rear cover. Anyone know what it is? Anyone need one around San Diego? Thanks Mark

It could be a Dana 44. I've got one with a 3.89 limited slip. Look on right side axle housing for 44 case intohousing. The I.D. tag may still be onthe back axle cover.

Thats what I thought, why would it have the 44 and not a standard 9"?? Was it considered an upgrade axle for heavier loads or?? Thre is also evidence that the frame had overload spings affixed at some point.

The Dana/Spicer was the rear provided from the factory when a limited slip option was selected. If it is the stock unit it will be a limited slip for the F100 only.

For 65 66 No 28 spline 9" traction lock rears were avalible without a dealer upgrade.

Thats interesting, thanks for the info! Its kind of a strange pickup, Its a custom cab with the sweeping cluster, has a 352, 4 spd with original hump cover but no side trim and looks like it was one color (teal).

When these trucks were new, you could order a single option, and not have to buy a package deal as you do now. You have what sounds like a standard cab, with a possible limited slip option. I recently bought a 65 that has the Dana 44 axle, with limited slip. It has a tag reading limited slip fluid only, on the rear of the housing.
