Post by 1961 f100 4x4 »

I bought a 1961 f100 4x4 the guy I bought it from had it 35 years when he got it the truck was 19 years old

I was told it should have the big front fenders my truck has the smaller ones on it did they put both on them are just the big ones

other wise the truck most stock but the front bumper and steeps on the side and roll bar and the lift and tires all the drive train is stock

I also have a 61 4x4
It too has the smaller opening fenders
I'm 95% sure they are original
I think tire size was the determining factor

all the things I read about it says it should have big fender cause it is a 4x4 I think it looks better with the smaller one I need to put tires on it they are bad they are 39x14.5 on there
the guy broke the steering box trying to move it with flat tires broke the shaft that goes to the wheel

thanks guys

WOW - that '61 appears to be one solid, rust-free 4x4 Slick! VERY SWEET INDEED!

I'm wondering if your '61 has a newer model 4x4 chassis under it?
It's hard for my old eyes to see clearly in those pictures, but the front end looks non-61 to me....?

The rear bumper is also a non-OEM unit.

As I recall, the 1961-1966 4X4 F100, F250 and all F350 trucks were factory-equipped with the wider, 45" opening radius fenders. They were equipped on the 2WD trucks only with the optional 17" and larger wheels.

What does it have for an engine and transmission?
How about a pic of the interior?

fenders openings were related to tires, except all f350s got the big opening

unless you have huge tires i see no point in worrying about them, i had 33s they fit fine, now have smaller i think if i had the big fenders the wheels would look small in them

btw nice truck

that what a lot of guys are telling me makes what size of tires are on it for the fenders I tried to look the fenders look like the same as the dash is but if they been replaced they could of jam the fender before they put them on

that is not an easy task, much easier to find a replacement column from another 61-66 4x4 f350 or f500
