Howdy from Kansas!

Post by Jason_S »

New member to Slick 60's...

Been a lurker on the forum for a while and finally joined.

Amongst many other hobbies and old vehicles, I have a '64 F-100 that my grandparents bought for a farm truck in the late 1960's. Motivation is a 223 I-6, 3-speed column shift and 3.89 9-inch Ford.

In the 90's, pulled it out of the shed where it had sat undriven for years. Cleaned up mouse infestation, got it running and drove it through high school. Had it painted and rebuilt the engine, then went off to college and it again sat more than it ran...

Recently, got the ole Ford running again and going back through all the troubles that occur from sitting. Completely replaced the entire brake system (e.g., new master and wheel cylinders, springs, steel & rubber lines). Had the wheels powder coated and new 7.00 x 15 bias ply tires. With the fresh wheels and new tires, had to strip and paint the hubcaps too.

Over the years, there are a few things I wish I wouldn't have done (i.e., install A/C, cut dash for 'modern' radio, used a better paint shop). However, it's in mostly still in original condition and in pretty good shape for its age.

Since I hadn't driven it in at least a decade, it was pretty neat to drive it once again. Still plenty to do on it, but probably a thorough wash and wax job is next on the list.

Welcome to the forum from the other side of the globe!

Slick looks good, still fairly original.
Creature comforts like a/c do help, we are just finishing summer here and every time I walk into my shed I see all the a/c components sitting in the shelf and ask myself why I haven't fitted it yet?!?! You Could fit a more compact underdash unit hidden out of site if you don't like what you have and just have the vents?

I too had my old radio cutout, it wasn't a big job to repair, it was painting the dash that was a pain :cussing:
If you didn't want to do that, retrosound have the Huntington radio that looks like the original slicks, and they also sell the plate covers to go over the din sized radio cutouts. It would give you the classic look without having to repair the dash.
