'64 f100 eaeist sway bar to use, I should pick up at a yard?

Post by aj64f100390-292 »

Hey, so I've looked at the sway bar threads on here in the past and never go to see the end result, any fords I could pull them off of at a yard, or a status report on how they turned out, and to me most of these had pretty sketchy sway bar end link mounts, however there was one that looked like it could be sound. So can you guys show me what you've used on your straight axles, how they turned out and drove etc. I'm wanting to get 4 wheel power disk , front sway bar, maybe a rear but I don't think I'll really need it , put in a rag joint. Maybe angle my column and shaft/gear box up the fire wall closer to a 65 and up for comfort, but one project at a time. Wanting to at least know now so that if the chance arises while parts hunting, I can pick up the components ahead of time.

Any help and pictures are aprecieated

I have always had free wrecking yard access when "shopping" for such items. I usually ended up with an IFS car application to maintain that delicate front/rear balance. I like the general design of Max's setup, although agreeing in theory with LM14's comments. That being said, my '64 will likely end up with an aftermarket kit; probably of somewhat smaller bar diameter and longer "arms". I don't care for the look ( and clearances) of an axle-mounted bar, nor the increased unsprung weight. Other than these general comments, I have little to offer at this point until such time as I get a solid grip on vehicle weight and distribution.

those are definantly some things to think about. Ya...seems I remember somone talking about a bronco sway bar...idk for sure, but anourher thought would be maybe the newer 4wds since technically they are a straight axle, I may be able to use one from the late 70s and up..I need to start looking..
