Rookie Question: 1963 223/240 To 1965 300 Interchange

Post by chris401 »

A man with a 1963 F100 I6 2wd 3 speed is looking at swaping to a 1965 300 I6 from a 2 wheel drive.

Question: Will there be any problem with mating the cast iron engine mount/timing cover from the 63 to the 65 engine? Will the 65 cam gears clear the 63 timing cover?

Thanks
Chris

I'm no expert on the I6 engines but the 240/300 are the same basic 'architecture'. The 223 is totally different.

Yep ... The 223 has different bell housing pattern
And different engine perches than the 240/300

I swapped a 63 F100 with a 223 over to a 300. The transmissions and bell housings are different. The good news is that the 240/300 has a lot more options for transmissions and bell housings.

Also, forget using the mount from the 223. It won't work. I used a bolt in crossmember for a FE engine to get mine in.

I sent him this post and he says he is a member here. I will let Randy tell first hand more about his truck.

Thanks
