Air Conditioning

Post by William-in-St George »

Has anyone installed the Vintage Air unit that is supposed to be a direct fit for our original heater assembly? I like the idea of electric servos for the heat control and blend door. Thanks.

I haven't but I want to hear and see how some of the kits out there turn out...what bothers me is that none of the kits I've looked at offer stock looking knobs...thats somthing I'll probably do along with a few other things to one of these kits..

I have one I ordered for my 61, the problem I have is it deletes air intakes and deletes glove box springs and most of the glove box. I am rethinking their idea of installation

wow...the glove box was a bit small to begin with...I may find a bumpside air unit and others and make my own...idk..ive been thinking about making a bracket to hold the deluxe heater controls and 2 or so extra switches for the a/c and related parts...would look alot more stock than what most kits do...and I'm not a purist by any means...but mismatched knobs...bug me   just my 2 cents

i used one of these . left a little glove box but door spring works, just have to deal with knobs , but in 64 im sure any truck owner would not have minded miss matched knobs to have A/C

I have it installed. It is a great system. Easy install with very good instructions. Very little modification to the vehicle that can't be undone. You do cover up the fresh air vents and lose a lot of the glove box.

I ordered some replacement knobs from dennis carpenter and used them for the system. That way they match the stock knobs!

Post some pictures of your AC setup with the factory type truck knobs from Carpenter.

I'm sure everyone would like to see the finished product.

It is a dakota digital pod. It was easy to install. The one I have was for the Bronco originally, so I had to make a real minor cut of the dash at the bottom of the gauge, but I think they make a slightly different one for the slicks now.

I just installed this kit as well! So far so good. The glove box thing is a bit of a downer but I plan to put a little drawer or something under the seat to make up for it. With my kit I ordered their upgraded black anodized knobs, a nice bonus with those is that they are back lit, that'll come in handy at night.

I didn't see any mention of it on Classic Auto Air page, are their kits available for an inline 6? I did some initial searches on other aftermarket a/c system websites, and everything was for a V8.

Both DASH photos look great. Or maybe I should say they look COOL.... since you both have A/C. :( I'm still sweating it. Maybe I should upgrade too, especially with the 98 degree days with the 73% humidity.

I gotta go wipe the sweat out of my eyes......
