292 y block harmonic balancer washer...

Post by aj64f100390-292 »

Hey...well...during the course of 3 or 4 years or more...Ive used or misplaced both my two 292 harmonic balancer washers...amazing you can find several sets of bolts for things that you've never truly built..basicallly in dads case y blocks...today I seached and found dads extra FE bolts and got one...problem solved right? Wrong! The fe washer is a hair big as it slightly covers the holes for an add on groove pulley..and the 292 bolt is smaller then the FE bolt so it could lead to balance issues if I cant get it center...now maybe its not an FE but dads tore into plenty and I pretty sure thats an FE. Now oreillys said that the kit they could get fit all ford v8s except 351 cleveland...so either thats wrong or I dont have an FE washer and bolt at the moment...may have to give up and completly empty out the shed..and as small as a washer is.we all know It could be anywhere..but its better than paying oreillys 35 bucks for a bolt and washer kit..

Any helps apreciated....

Y-Blocks use a 9/16" bolt, which is pretty uncommon for the damper. The kit at oreilly or any other parts store will not have it - that is an error based on the ignorance of the parts guy.

The washer is pretty thick. I can measure one tomorrow. A stack of washers might work. It would also be easy to make with some flat stock and a drill press with a hole saw

well thanks to y blocks forever I know it can't be thinner then 3/16" but I stack of washers wouldn't be as strong as the grade 8 washer that is needed...so were almost positive that it would bend the washers and cause a catastrophe soon enough, this morning we found another one that the I/D is right, but its a hair too big so if we use it We will have issues adding the 3rd pulley add on for air conditioning...and y I have a grinder but no way to hold the washer down..but the bolts in both my crank shafts are 3/4 or 5/8 if im not mistaken...Ill have to double check..

You are mistaken. If it is a Y-Block, then the bolt is 9/16".

You can use a bolt or stud and nuts to hold the washer while you trim it to size with a grinder.

I'd figure out a way to chuck it into a drill and run it over some aggressive sandpaper. This would keep it round.

No ,but through my searching through my storage buildings, I found one with the right Id, but a little big on the outside, im thinking neither of my 292s had the right one...even though the one I got was oit of a 64 f100, and was really a 64 f600 or bigger and had never been opene up I believe..someone must have swapped it out or ford used whatever since it didnt have an add on pulley..heck it has black paont on the c3 intake..it gad lots of c3 code parts! Even a distributor! But theres really no telling..

If you found some with the right inner diameter and thickness, then they are probably the correct washers as they are not a standard sized washer that would happen to be laying around.

I'll try to remember to look for one for measurements.

I think the accessory pulleys would have been fastened by a longer center bolt, as well as the two smaller bolts and from that perspective, the washer you have overlapping the two bolt holes does not matter if an additional pulley is not used.

I found two to measure. They do overlap the two outer holes slightly. OD is 1 3/4" for both. One is 5/16" thick. The other is 3/16" thick.
