To keep it simple and cheap I am not going to install a car 4 speed in my 66 but start looking for a truck 4 speed, what I need to know is what years of trans can I use with my bellhousing. I would like one that has a switch for back up lights since I did add them to my truck.

I looked at a trans at a swapmeet and no way do i want to mess with that heavy piece of iron so its going to get a 3 speed, just too old and no trans jack.

I don't have a transmission jack either...
But I have put in plenty of transmissions

I use my floor jack
I have a steel plate about 15"x18"
That I bolt to my jack

Lots of 1x4s & 2x4s of varying lengths for blocking
Just about have to have a second guy helping though

I've used the mid-80s O/Ds in replacement for the std 3spds. I have a '77 truck 4 spd with creeper low that has the backup light connection, but do not know when these were introduced. I think it has the same bolt pattern as the similar unit from 66.

The 4 speed OD from the 80s are aluminum and not heavy duty but bolt in place of the 3 or 4 speeds but drive shaft length could be a issue. I found a drive shaft the correct length for my swaps . Tom

I am taking a New Process four speed out of my 65. As soon as I get the C-6 in it would be willing to sell my bellhousing and transmission, The tranny shifts flawlessly and it is a good solid tranny. It only has 43,000 original miles on it.

Plans have changed again and its going to get a 351-W and will use the smallblock C-6 and mounts from the 78 parts truck,I picked up a running 302 and 351 from wrecked trucks for 100 each so I could not pass them up.

Make sure you get all the pulleys with the engines, as finding a matched set can be iffy at best. Just so you know, Even on stock engines in the cars and trucks the pulleys had an alignment problem. Good price on the engines.

How much will you be wanting for the 4 speed tranny and bell? Just curious.

I can not use any of the brackets on those motors since they are for a serpentine belt,I know of a mid 70s Torino in a local junkyard that I will rob everything off of it for this motor including the timing chain cover since its going to get a carb.
