Glad you got it fixed!
1034 was replaced by the 1157, IIRC, it had to do with the industry switch to alternator systems. 1157 is a direct, supposedly more durable replacement.
Again, IIRC, the 1054 is a dual element bayonet type bulb, but does not have the offset lugs to correctly fit your sockets. I would assume it was simply forced in place, so likely not making good contact with correct terminals.

This works great. I think I still have a ground issue somewhere since the flasher was slowing down once the truck heated up. This flasher has it's own ground though, so it stays solid no matter what. Very nice.
