Raising my frontend
Raising my frontend
My 66-250 sits high in the rear, any suggestions for getting the front up 3 or 4" so it looks level....anyone ever use the rubber spring spacers....would that mess with steering or ride???

Re: Raising my frontend
I have installed the rubber rings on a newer truck to level it. Still working well.
I've also installed well used f350 springs in a 250 to level it, the ride was to harsh and I put new springs in within a year or so...

Re: Raising my frontend
You can get a helper "helper" leaf spring (add a leaf)
They are usally a little thicker than stock
And more curved....
You unbolt your leaf pack & add it in , usally in the middle
......
Another way , is to disassemble your leaf springs & "re-arch) each leaf
Then re-assemble
I have done this to a couple of trucks
Disassemble
Clean each leaf with a powered wire brush wheel
Re-arch each leaf with a press
Then I usally put lube on each leaf
Re-assemble & install ..... 1.5" to 2.5 increase I've usally attained

Re: Raising my frontend
Rubber spacers generally won't give you 3 or 4" . Anything which will, like new coils or spacer discs, will often require re-alignment as caster and camber will change. Personally, I would go with some MOOG Cargo Coils, variable rate springs, to help ride quality. If going 4" , you are going to need longer shocks, or, (shudder), shock extensions, as well.

Re: Raising my frontend
Dan, I'd leave the front where it is and bring the rear down to match it, will still need new shocks tho !
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

Re: Raising my frontend
I have a half ton that has some I-beams that raise the front end about 2-3 inches. I forget the brand name but these came out of California and look to be in good condition. You would most likely need a dropped steering box arm, which may or may not be on the truck I have. If so, I would sell all together. I believe the I-beams for 1/2 and 3/4 are the same, but not positive on this. Otherwise, I would just use a drop shackle on the rear to lower it, but that would only get you a couple of inches and might be a problem if you are going to haul heavy loads. This could be solved with overload springs. There were several different springs available for our trucks with the number of leafs different and different rates. Not certain what you do with your truck, but you should use usage as your guide on what you do.
