OK..OK....I'm posting something

On Pats thing the other day I mentioned my shifter shot craps on me.....so today I drove the one ton thermostat was stuck open......no heat......radiator was leaking like a stuck pig stopped at autozone for some stop leak poured that in,slowed it down a little I had filled it up before leaving home so it wasn't a total melt down just dripping all over when I stopped somewhere....and it's was cold here today.Decided to come home and have a look at the 250.....pulled the steering wheel and blinker thingey to look at the shifter arm, thought maybe it broke inside the colume.....no visible damage......put that back together found out if I pushed the shifter towards the dash enough it would engage.......went in grabbed a beer and the ole thinkin hat....took most of the beer till the answer appeared....loosened the column bolts under the dash and one on the firewall thingey ...was able to move it about 1/4"into the cab........regained full function....problem solved ....except the tow truck cost me $100.........might have a F-600 radiator lined up waiting for a call

That's latest news from Kansas City

Is your old radiator not worth fixing ?
....
That's one thing I never tried to do... radiator soldering
We used to have a really good radiator shop in Salina
2 old guys ran it .. about 3 days a week...
I don't think any equipment in it was less than 40 years old...
They did wonderful work ... if you weren't in a hurry
They closed down .. they were both in their 70s...
a lawnmower shop bought their equipment.. and NAME...
Needless to say... the new place is worthless :cussing:

Pat,
Last summer I soldered up a bad seam in the top of this radiator now it's leaking out the bottom side of the top right where all the cooling tubes enter....don't know that I could get my copper in that area....won't know until it comes out.....if I can get this other one then I'll have a spare if it's fixable my current spare came loose and went into the fan last summer so it's scrap.....

I have the radiator from the firetruck I disassembled if you can't find one elsewhere. That being said, the one I have was holding antifreeze when I removed it from the truck, but showed some signs of leakage
.

We used to tig silica bronze on non ferrous metals to patch things up at work. The stuff seems to “stick” to everything and holds up very well. Not sure if that’d be helpful or easier than soldering, but might be something worth keeping in mind...

I'm going keep this post alive with occasional updates on this project, has nothing to do with slicks. But what the hell everyone likes pictures....there's so much going at this house for me that completion will be early June been here two weeks this Thur.and I lost my helper. So it's just my old ass slinging 32' ladders put one up,take one down, move this one, move that one.Clime up,clime down....40 yrs.of this of doing this and I still enjoy it....."Where's the feast I was promised"......

This mornings head scratcher was how do I put a 4x5 rectangle into a 4"round hole.......Well the first priority for me is take a break, coffee and turn on Pandora....1st.song to play "LA Women" The Doors cranked it full volume and took my break......here's what I came up with...

The problem:

During break I came up with this...

Exspensive ... but will outlive plastic stuff a couple hundred years ..
Nice fab work
I've got some of those old soldering irons & a propane heater
Picked them up at an auction for hardly nothing
Guess I need to play with them some

Love the work, I will have to pick your brain as I am hoping to make up a weather vane and experience trumps trial and error by a mile

Another update, the radiator in my 350 that was leaking so much is now fixed.....drained the coolant down to where I could see the cooling tubes......hasn't leaked a drop in two weeks.Had another weird noise for the last couple months coming from somewhere in the driveline, rpm based sound and not constant....every now and then.... stopped by a job site and finally open the hood to check it out....one of the fan blades had about a 1/32" clearance to the lower pulley.........a little poop on each blade with a big ass crowbar ...problem solved... no more noise....I need more of these easy fixes in my life.....That's all for now,the gutter job is still up and running

Standard sheet of 16oz.copper is 36"x120",48" is available but pricey....never measured thickness it's always ounces per sq.ft...16,20 or 32 ....around here I'm paying $150/160 a sheet....Calif.probably double that cause it's Cally....
