About to do the same thing right now myself since my previous rubber mat disintegrated. I'd be interested in the results of whatever you decide.

My vote is a rubber/ vinyl mat with a double layer of jute.
I have had carpeted trucks and always considered the carpet high maintenance.

I may or may not get so far as to cover the floors before SS....
I already have new roll of jute, but only pieces of original mats.

My '66 had foil insulation on the whole floor, jute padding and a rubber mat. It was very quiet.

Whichever way you decide to go, I'd also cut strips of the jute matting to glue into all the recessed areas of the floor pan, just as a filler to build it up. Then install a solid piece of jute matting over the entire floor, before putting down the carpet/rubber mat.

If not, over time you'll see the imprint of all the recessed areas, evident in the finished product as it settles and gets wear. Just a thought......
