Headlight switch

Post by Jacobs63 »

Anyone have a detailed diagram or pic of which pin is what on a 63 headlight switch. Wiring a new one in without any reference from an old one is harder than you’d think. Please and thank you.

Does this help (pic is too big to show in the post)? '65 is the only diagram I have, but maybe they're similar.

‘65 is a different animal. I have had little luck posting images, but here goes:https://postimg.cc/image/4xov46esh/7927d48c/

Paul don't those trucks have the fuse block attached to it :?: :?: , If so I  would install the 65 and up switch and put a NORMAL Fuse block system in it,, that was not one of Fords Better Ideas on attaching to the switch

Tom,
Sounds like a rewire may be in the works here! That would be my choice as well. Actually, I would use a later bump switch to allow park lamps to remain on with headlamps. In some cases, that involves relocating the retainer groove on the knob and shaft.
One would need both applicable pin-outs.

A rewire is in the works. I’m going to order a 65 switch. That sounds easy enough.

Yep, sourcing the connector will likely be the hardest part.

Paul that switch is the same from 1965 to 76 trucks and I would use a original Ford Switch instead of some off the wall brand

Tom, I believe the later switches, (D3 prefix), while sold as a direct replacement by our vendors, differed by having the park lamps engaged when headlamps were on, no big deal, but some prefer that without bothering with a jumper. They may be the only switch easily available now, so may be a moot situation.
But, there are two different lengths of knob/shaft combos; they will directly interchange, the longer will simply stick out slightly in off position. Easily fixed by cutting and moving the retainer slot, or simply buying a replacement knob/ shaft. I "think" the change from one to the other was at s/n 400,000, but may well be confused.

Paul cannot say about other switches but the Original ones we carry also comes with a spacer so the difference of shafts maybe :?: :?: But this switch works all the way to 1976 , then 77 is one year and then 78/79 another but do not know what differences would be on the 77/79 trucks and < I guess only Ford would know,, number is a D3ZZ and be careful since the D3TZ are for the bigger trucks
