FE motors
352 heads are fine, but have hardened valve seats put in when you do the valve job. When you look for a cam, go to someone like Jegs and get a 390 RV style cam and keep it under 285 degrees with a max of 1/2" lift.
Headers are a must, but they have to be specifically for a Ford truck. Car headers will not work.
Also, find a set of adjustable rocker arms and hardened pushrods.
I'd recommend a 390 if you can get one cheap (and you should still be able to find them) because the stroke is longer and for some reason, it gets better gas milage than the 352/360.
Makes more horse pressure too.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

The key to the FE is realizing it is not a high rpm revver, but a torque motor. Low rpm power is what you need to persue.
"RV" cam, yes.
Headers...well, they will flow better than manifolds, but many feel they are leaky, obtrusive PITA's.
Aluminum intake will save weight and will probably flow better than the stocker, but I wouldn't say it's a necessity to do that and a 4 barrel.
4bbl carb, don't make the mistake of going to big like most people. The carb should be sized to work with your cam and heads. Bigger isn't always better.
MSD ignition, probably unnecessary expense. Pertronix makes a drop in replacement electronic ignition that is far cheaper and reliable. I'd save the MSD for the race engine guys.

I somewhat disagree with the mileage statement. However, there's not much difference. I think the 352 could get significantly better mileage with an improvement in compression. The later 360 was very low on compression. If you can find some of the rare COAZ heads with a very small head chamber, this would help. There are plenty of heads out there for the FE's but most have about the same combustion chamber size. Not sure, but believe some of the 352 car engines were equiped with better compression ratio's. The main problem with 352, are related to pistons, and rings. These cost more, than for the 390, and are harder to find. Adjustable rockers are a hard part to find, or just plain expensive. I know of several 390's here in southern Illinois. If your close, I can help you find one. Evilbay has several listed usually. I noticed one in the St. Louis Sunday paper.

If your 352 is still in good condition. There are some easy mods to wake it up. Headers are a must. Install a streetmaster intake and 650 carb and a comp cams 262 cam and new lifters. The differance is very noticable. Ask the iceman how his wifes 4x4 runs.
The good part is if you decide later to go with a 390 or 428 all the parts will swap over.
