Battery Load

Post by GLindley »

Is there an easy way to check my battery's performance under load with an OHM meter?

So then, I'm guessing that there is no easy way to check my battery under load with an OHM meter. I guess I'll just remove the battery and drive it down to my friendly parts house and have then check it under load.

Well and Ohm meter is used to measure resistance in anything that carries current. A volt meter can measure your battery. Perhaps your question confused some people. If you have a multi meter, set it to VDC and put the probes on the correct +/- terminal. A good battery should read 12.7-13.2 or so. If it's close to 12 or under, could be the battery is dying. A charge might restore it, and that's what the parts store can tell you (if it will hold a charge).

No need to disconnect it. Just drive it to an AutoZone or such. Load test can be done with switch off. Just reading the voltage will give you some idea of the batteries charged condition, but won't tell you much. Your battery really needs to be charged over night, then sleft to set for several hours, then load tested. If you test a battery right after being charged, and it's marginal, it may test good, when it's not.
