Mercury truck websites specifically www.mercurypickup.com

Post by wwhite »

There used to be a great website that was all about Mercury Trucks.
It was online from 2001 until approximately 2011-2012.
I am assuming that the domain expired, and then some unknown person bought it who probably didn't even know what a Mercury Truck is.

I recently did some research, and with some time, and dealing with someone in Japan, I was able to buy the domain.

My plans are to restore the original content, add new content, and keep the web content information specific for Mercury Trucks.

I wanted to hear everyones opinions from slick60s as to whether or not this is a good idea, as I do not want to break any copyright laws from the person who originally created the site content.

Also, if any one knows of who the originator of http://www.mercurypickup.com was, please let me know, as I would like to communicate directly with her/him.

UPDATE - Found the old owner, Tom Skews, Sultan, WA anyone have Toms current contact information?

I only recently discovered that the domain was no longer active after the topic came up on another forum. There was a lot of helpful content there, specifically the Canadian-specific VIN code formats.

If it can be restored in a legal and above-board fashion then I for one would love to see it back up and running. I think you're on the right track in attempting to contact the original site owner.

Do you have access to the original content now that you've purchased the domain?

Hi, sorry, been away for a while.

I have purchased the domain, and am attempting to restore the old content.
Currently, I am getting the old content from the Internet Archives, way-back machine.
This takes a lot of time, which I don't really have.

I will continue to load content as time permits.
