Blinker will not blink--I'm new to the forum!

Post by Danimal »

Hello From Austin Texas! I'm new to the group, glad I found this group.

I have a 66 custom cab short bed that the blinkers will not blink. The brake lights work, the headlights work, the flashers work but when I engage the blinker it stays on solid, front and back. This happens for both sides, and the light indicator on the dash stays solid green too. :?:

I'm the furthest thing from an electrician, know just enough to hurt myself! Any advise is appreciated :D

Thanks~ Danimal.

:welcome:
Since the emergency flashers are working; most likely the problem is the flasher. There are two under the cash; small round tubes with a wiring connector on one end. Swap those two; probable result is that the problem will reverse to the emergency flashers. The replacement is cheap; get a heavy duty one.

Electrical issues can always be interesting. When you say the emergency flashers are working, did you check and make sure both the tail lights and front turn lights were flashing or were you just going by the light on the dash flashing? If all the lights were flashing, I agree its probably the flasher unit for the turn signal. If the lights themselves are not flashing you'll be in for some more work. Dead bulbs and bad connections can prevent the signal from working as well. For the tail lights, make sure the brake lights work first. These use the same filament in the bulb as the signal. For the front signals, you can test them by jumping the wires directly to the battery.

Thanks for the help. Sorry for the late response. My son was recently born, which can eat up some free time.

I plan on addressing the blinker tonight. Finally got some free time.
