If at all possible don't use fish eye eliminator in your paint. Sometimes that is the only option but only as a last resort. Sand it down and try again after cleaning with degreaser. Fish eye eliminator is silicone. In the old days it was pretty much automatic that you put fish eye eliminator in all your paint, not today. Try to get by with out using it.

You're doing a great job! I'm envious. One question, isn't it sort of a moot point to do all the detail work on the door alignment without the cab bolted solidly to the frame? Door glass and hardware add a good chunk of weight too. Sorry just watching from the sideline. :dontknow:

might be a mute point about the door alignment. i just couldn't let it go.

I spent the day in the driveway working on the inner fenders. I had put them upstairs a few days ago with plans to get around to them later- but I needed to spray some high build on the doors (but it takes time to dry) and I needed to wet sand the dash/interior but some spots were still wet. I rolled the cab into the driveway to let it soak up the sun.

Needed something to do so I grabbed the inner fenders from upstairs and set them up for wet sanding. I took 320, 400 and 600 to them.

first coat of black.

Laid down real smooth in some areas
Image

three coats clear. There are some bits of dust, hair and fuz in there, and some runs in the clear. But it looks damn good!

Will let these sit overnight and then put them upstairs to sit and wait their turn for wet sanding and cut/buff.

I will wet sand the cab interior tomorrow. I will also run up to the paint store and get more red. I need a faster reducer too. And more clear. Have plans to wet sand and then reshoot a coat of red in the cab then get the clear on by tuesday.

Screwed up my dash. Paint reaction and it wrinkled. I am going to need to sand it all down again and I am not touching it this week any more. I am going to work on my doors and a few other pieces. I'm frustrared and know it will be fine. I will figure it out,

Today is rain forecast so I will be in the garage. May wet sand my inner fenders first. Then stow upstairs for future installation.

Live and learn.

April, check your tech pages, some clear coats get really hard after a certain time period and it gets really difficult to buff out even if it's already sanded. The tech pages will also give you the recoat window in the event that you need to recoat as you learned the hard way as a lot of us have. DRIVE ON!! Your body work looks great.

Stuff needed priming again.

While i was waiting for those to dry, and the doors as well, I got the blaster out and started on the bed.

Image
I got the exterior sides done but it got dark. I hate the fall when the sun disappears at an inconvenient time. I will finish it when I get more time. I will first work on sanding those parts in the garage first, then if I get that done and need to re-prime I will start blasting.

It was 65* today! I spent the entire day blasting. I'm done with that stupid thing. Will either sell it or scrap it! I will never do that myself ever again.

This is the closest the cab and bed have been.

Put some epoxy on it. I used an Eastwood low VOC I bought a year ago not knowing I had a automotive paint store so close. I'm out of my Transtar epoxy so I used the Eastwood. Hate it. Will drive up and buy more transtar!

What was different about the Eastwood epoxy? I have some and not too fond of it. Just wanted to hear what you had to say about it.

Looking great!

It was extremely runny, smells terrible(even though I wear a respirator I smell it outside). And as soon as I sprayed it, it seemed to be clumpy. It didn't seem to cover very well. When I went back to look at it last night, it was almost like its components didn't bond. Just disappointed with it. Will pick up some more Transtar today or Monday.

Didn't have that at all with mine. Mine went on fine but I just didn't like the finished surface, seemed to stay "tacky" or "gummy" a few days. Spraying wise, it was normal. Almost sounds like yours has been frozen or is really old.

The texture of it this afternoon was rough, bumpy, unlike the Transtar! I drove up to egg harbor and bought a gallon today. That will get me thru!

The top part of this picture is of the door in Transtar Epoxy.

the bottom is the door access panel in the eastwood epoxy. it is crap.

took the bed apart yesterday. just wasn't satisfied with the rust blasting i did. There was a lot of rust hidden in the joints.

When I was putting that shitty epoxy on, I had a hard time reaching everything without arm hitting the panel, or having to put the gun upside down or sideways without control. caused a lot of runs.

So I took it apart with a titanium drill bit and 10 minutes.

I spent the whole day wet sanding the doors today. I put them in Transtar epoxy (as a sealer) in prep for painting this week.

Will start sanding the dash again and prepping that for paint. If I can get a heater by the weekend, I will paint!

I hate paint problems too April. Bad thing about certain paints that don't play
well with each other. Think I would stick with what has been working well for you.
The black on those inner fenders looked awesome. What paint is that? TR

I will move forward with the transtar epoxy from now on.

As for the paint, it is a Limco brand base coat I'm using. It isn't cheap but it's not expensive . It's like 150 a gallon.

April, I heard you loud and clear about the sand blasting. I hated it. I got so burned out on it that I talked my cousin into coming over and finishing it. He is an hard worker and always has to be doing something. The company he was working for had laid off a bunch of people and he was one of them, so he was glad to be doing something. The bad news is he found another job a few days later and I had to finish the blasting. The good news is I only had about a day of blasting left. All is good that ends well.

Those colors look great together and I really like the grey insert on the doors.

Keep up the great work!
