My 65 Slick - Ol Blue

Post by 65_Slick »

Bought my second slick about 2006. Daily driver for a couple of years and then decided to take it apart to fix the rust. It had 66,000 miles on it when I bought it, with about 10,000 on a replacement engine. The guy I bout it from told me the 300 six came from an air compressor that was at his work, they had rebuilt it and then never put it back in service.

Here's a pic from Day one.

Here's one from tear down.

Sandblasted the bottom of the cab and frame.

That was in 2009, it has sat since. Waiting on time and money.

Fast forward to the last month or so, pulled it out of storage and finally got started on it again.

Welded in new cab mounts, made my own patches for everything else so far.
Por-15's degreaser, and metal prep.

Image

Two coats of Por-15.

Image

Two coats of Harbor Freight's Truck Bed Coating.

You can see the texture roller I used next to the can.

A glimpse of what's to come.

Hopefully I won't get stalled again, goal is to have it back on the road and make it to the next SlickStock in Salina.

WOW, can't believe it's been since 2014 that I posted or even worked on my truck. Life and work just gets in the way :D
Frame was sand blasted and painted in 2014, then sat outside since. Went over it with a wire brush on an angle grinder, cleaned it up good and painted it with POR-15.

Slowly getting the suspension back together.

Decided to try the Explore springs, should be here tomorrow and can hopefully finish the front.

Also waiting on some new bearings to be pressed onto the rear axles, went with a Speedway rear disk brake kit, looking forward to getting it put on.

Got the rear disks on, still need to run the brake lines. The explorer front springs required a bracket to keep them in the upper spring cup, they would drop out of the cup when you jacked up the frame. The wheels are temp ones, so we could roll the truck out of the garage. My son came over with a skid steer to do some dirt work, so we took advantage and got the cab set on the frame!

Surprised how low the front is, be interesting to see how is sits, when it's all back together. :D :D :D
