Question, I want to remove the switches under the gauge panel to prep the dash for paint. Any tips on how to do that easily? I have the gauge panel out so access is better.

Second full day in a row of just cleaning caked on grease and nastiness off the suspension, firewall, crossmember, steering box, Z bar etc. I think I'm over half way done. Can't wait to get some color on it. I picked up the red paint to shoot the firewall on Friday. Suspension will be black along with the inner fenders.

Each switch tends to have its own secrete removal method. The ignition needs to be pushed and turned from the back to release. The headlite has a push button on the switch that needs to be depressed to release the shaft and the knob (these can be tricky), the lighted unscrews form the back, the fan has a small slot towards the bas of the knob - use a small screw driver in this slot pulling towards the back of the cab to release the knob, then the bezel unscrews from the front, the choke has a nut on the back and needs to be totally removed from the carb.

Exactly what I was looking for Bruce. Thanks so much. These old cars/trucks can be tricky. This is my first Ford truck I've worked on so its all new to me.

Now for some engine updates, .060 over 292 with a nice thumper cam. Crank, rods and pistons all had to be replaced. That broken rod tore things up pretty bad. One head was swapped out for a matching one since they were mis matched. Amazingly the block just needed honing after all that carnage.

Engine is done. Tim did an incredible job on it. The color is called almond and should stand out nicely against the red firewall and the black inner fenders. With this post I am pretty current to what the truck looks like right now. More to come soon.

There is a seller on ebay (user ID wbmesq) who sells PPG paint, DBU and Deltron DBC, his prices are excellent. DBU or DBC will give you way more coverage than OMNI. You can use any compatible clear, I used Transtar, and some other brand that I forget the name of with great results. I bought from him a few times, and probably saved over $300 vs buying at my local PPG Dealer.

VERY nice work, I really like the engine colors. Are you keeping the generator? The generator looks cool, but really lacks in power vs an alternator.
