Slick4x4 build of a cruiser..........

Post by slick4x4 »

Something different for me this time....
2 wheel drive F100
Plans... 300 i6 headers & intake with c6 automatic
Drop it , by putting axles on top of leafs & notch the frame
It's a short bed .. I've got a good one off a 66
Paint...... I'm really wanting to do a flat black truck....

Pulled it up to the shop today...
My goal = finish by SLICKSTOCK 2018

Looks like Gary and I being there lit a fire. Glad to see it. Did you move it to the shop in the same manner you moved Gary's? Looks to be in similar shape (rear end with no wheels or bed).

Looking forward to your progress pics.

Looks like great progress.

Your wife helps you? That's fantastic! All I get from my wife is yelling at me because I'm spending too much time on my trucks.

I thought I had everything unhooked before climbing into the skid steer
Got the engine/tranny pulled halfway and then I spied the speedo cable !
Colleen grabbed the air grinder & cut it.. No good anyway

Nice to have good help these days.

Project is coming along. Are you going to scuff and paint the frame or just going to install the 300 in there?

That mobile engine hoist is the way to go. We could have used that moving the cab off the trailer and into position at Gary's place.

I'll probably wire brush & powerwash the frame , then some type of undercoating
Front cab mounts need some attention too

Once again...not for car shows
Just want a driver we can get into easy...
Roll down the road 70 mph.. Good brakes...
And hopefully ..... Air conditioned & radio.....

Do you have any idea how hard it is to ride 8 hours
With Colleen & no radio ? ... And stay sane ?
No human has done it yet...... nuts.gif

Funny you mention a radio. The very first thing my 13 year old son said when he got in my Slick for a ride was, "where's the radio/CD player"?

He had never seen an AM radio and one without buttons.

The comment about your lovely bride, I'm not going to touch. Bolt.gif

Hey Pat, what happened to the frame Gary got the cab from?
Does it have a set of Rear cab supports I can bolt on my uni?

I still have it
I thought I might try to sell it
It's a short wheelbase 65-66 in good shape
Are you needing them quickly ?

No Pat just always on the look out for them. Bought my first set from Brian before he moved south. If you scrap the frame please cut them off for me. They work great on unibodies, I guess I could just build them out of channel but they look better off an original frame.

Got the front axle out from the leafs
Going to pull the leafs & disassemble and clean up
New bushings will be installed also
Started taking apart the axle itself
Then have to start measuring for the c notch
( crappy pic do to cheap phone )

Pat I would like to see a detail of how you did the axle flip on the front of the truck! You were telling us on Chat tonight. Totally intrigued me that it would work. Lets see some close ups buddy? TR

Machined a shallow groove on the bottom of the axle & drilled pilot hole
I machined it at a slight angle to maintain the same degree after installing
It On top of leafs
